Just recently I heard of a 'Net gathering in Canada. As usual, there were many pictures to be shown (via the Web) and many more stories to share. It prompted me to try to remember my very first meeting with cyberfriends... But would you believe it.. I can't remember? ;)
Oh, I remember every gathering I went to, I just can't seem to remember which came first. Anyway, I always try to take the opportunity to meet a cyberfriend face-to-face. And yet, nearly every time, prior to the meeting, I get a case of a thousand butterflies in my stomach; even with the closest friends. It's a remarkable and sometimes I wish I could meet them more often; the first time is usually very awkward. ;) But I've been asking myself: does it make the person more real? Actually, no. In fact, sometimes meeting a person face-to-face feels unreal. That may come off as sad to some people.. but how else would it feel to meet a stranger who's not a stranger?
Ah, I don't know what I'm trying to say. I'm getting jitterish in my thoughts. :) Lest I lose myself before this night is over, I think I'll cheat on this Scribble. ;) I got this anonymous pass-along a couple months ago. It feels appropriate here.
FRIENDS WITHOUT FACES
We sit and we type, and we stare at our screens
We all have to wonder, what this possilby means.
With our mouse we roam, through the rooms in a maze
Looking for something or someone, as we sit in a daze.
We chat with each other, we type all our woes
Small groups we do form, and gang up on our foes.
We wait for somebody, to type out our name
We want recognition, but it is always the same.
We give kisses and hugs, and sometimes flirt
In IMs we chat deeply, and reveal why we hurt.
We do form friendships - but- why we don't know
But some of these friendships, will flourish and grow.
Why is it on screen, we can be so bold
Telling our secrets, that have never been told.
Why is it we share, the thoughts in our mind
With those we can't see, as though we were blind.
The answer is simple, it is clear as a bell.
We all have our problems, and need someone to tell.
we can't tell real people, but tell someone we must
So we turn to the 'puter, and to those we can trust.
Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains
They are Friends Without Faces, and odd little names.
