Went to a friend's birthday gathering today, and after hanging out the restaurant and mall, we headed to a park to take pictures. While there, it made me realize I ought to get out a little more often. It's no secret that I'm a regular hermit. Going out is often too much of a hassle for me... to spend about two hours of what you want to do, you've got to spend another four hours from your own home to your destination and back, dealing with all the travelling, prepping and whatever. Ever notice you always spend a lot of your time out of the house..waiting? What a waste of time! I could be home doing ...something. :-P Then it's night, and I wonder where the day went.

I saw a lot of people at that park. Not only families.. friends, too, the ever present couple. Some of them were fishing, others just playing around at the playground and yet others were just sitting together, just relaxing.. I used to do that more often. Long before I got discovered the ol' computer. I used to get out of the house more, get involved in more activites.. was a little more...(ahem) fit back then too.

I've forgotten what it was like to go out and collect flowers/leaves for pressing. Or even rocks, just 'cause some were neat. I can barely remember what it was like taking those art classes just for the fun of it. And instead of worrying about getting 'there' on time, I used to just look around.

Then technology came along...

Not to say I'm going to start singing a "technology's evil" tune. Can't sing anyway. But maybe, just maybe I've got to start to live a little. Or at least, balance things out a little.. I knew a family, once, who would limit their children's time with the computer and tv. Instead, they encouraged to spend the extra time outdoors. "Get outta the house and climb some trees, NOW!" Hmmm.. maybe they've got the right idea.

And maybe I'll climb a couple of trees, myself.
