Here's an exerpt of a friend's soliloquy:

"Have you ever felt lonely? Really lonely? .. It's like an empty spot deep inside you.. that perhaps may have once been filled, or may not have been. You have a love-hate relationship with it. Sometimes you want to go inside and hide. You want to shut the world out, because the world wouldn't get on with shutting you out. It just goes on and on, without giving you a thought.. So you hide. Imagined refuge. And then other times you want to destroy that place. Tear down the walls it has. So that although it would be in ruins, it wouldn't be empty. But you can't. You're too afraid, you're too weak. And for that, you hate it more. ... In the end, you wonder if you can ever win. I tell you, sir..madam, ...alone, you can't."

For reasons of her own, the author wishes to stay anonymous. But I thank her for allowing me to "cheat" on this particular Scribbling.

Treasure your friends by being a friend.
