The Play
Scribed by Juliana Ng

The curtains have gone up
Wake up, look alive, it's our cue
Their eyes on us as we play the game
Look left, look right, but heaven forbid,
Don't look at them
So the music starts
And we take our places on the stage
We go through the motions
Pretending to be someone we're not
Though my actions are not mine
My thoughts belong to me
And there are things I want to tell you
Things I wish to ask
But the lines have already been written
There's nothing you and I can do, but follow the script
So we weave this intricate plot together
With a story interwined so deep, no one notices.
Occasionally, I forget who we really are
Then finally, we glance at each other
For one brief moment, in truth
As the audience delivers their encore
That precious moment when we are ourselves
And then music begins again
Wake up. Look alive. That's our cue.
