Tfs in Germany (thanks to Nevermore)
(April 2005) Germany - toys since 1985 (MB). Marvel Comics since 1988, starting with a three issue limited series (US #2 1-4), then one year later continuing as an ongoing (lasting 24 issues), in weird oversized format, poorly translated, ignoring any sense of continuity (starting in the middle of a storyarc and never bothering to finish it, that kind of stuff), eventually banning the US stuff into tiny pocket book format and reprinting some random UK stuff in the regular title. Self-made covers, like a pink Ultra Magnus battling a green Megatron when the issue itself is about the Throttlebots, and ALWAYS with some generic humans in the background. Cartoon: Originally, some viewers who had cable or satellite could get Sky Channel (from the UK), which aired the first season (in English) but was later replaced by Eurosport. In 1989, we finally got a dub, which was mediocre at best. But the worst thing was the airing order: The cartoon STARTED with "Nightmare Planet" (from season 3), followed by "The Return of Optimus Prime" and "The Rebirth". After that, we got "Transport to Oblivion", "Roll for It" (both season 1), "The Autobot Run", "Auto-Bop", "The Girl Who Loved Powerglide" and "Hoist Goes Hollywood" (all four from season 2). After that, we got another set of six season 3 episodes, followed by even more season 3 stuff, eventually airing the entire third season and finally ending (!) with "Five Faces of Darkness". Transformers: The Movie aired for the first time (!), only on TV, in 1994. Most of the voice actors had either been replaced or swapped their roles (the guy who originally voiced Rodimus Prime was now Optimus etc.). The same cast was later used for the German dub of Generation 2. We never got any G2 comics. Mexican toys: in 1989, then the "Classic Heroes" in 1990, going on with G2, Beast Wars etc., which gets more and more bizarre. I'm still in the process of dissecting this. My fellow German fan Metro is a great help in this and has been researching for longer than I have, and still I managed to dig out stuff even he didn't know yet.
