A Siskoid by any other name #15

Theses are not dream cards. They are guesses as to the future personnae and/or AU personnel that might be featured in our little game. I call these warped (get it? warped? ahh forget it) versions of characters "-oids", but I'm also listing "regular" versions since we haven't seen any for DS9 yet. Up next: one of my personnal favorites (and I know I was alone there for awhile), Doctor Julian Bashir!

BASHIROIDS

1-Julian Bashir (1st year): The original boyish doctor. Regular non-oids are so dull aren't they? Hopefully these won't be. Sure, he'll be another double MEDICAL exobiologist type, but what would put him over the top? Increased stats the further he is out on the spaceline (on the frontier if you will)?

2-Julian Bashir (DNA-enhanced): Yes, he was ALWAYS dna-enhanced, but this card would reflect his giving in to his genetic superiority. At this point, he should be on par with Data and other androids, at least in Cunning, Computer Skill, etc. Should genetically enhanced personnel have "unfair advantages over normal humans"? That would be cool! (Too bad Khan is still off-limits.) Like androids, they could be a special personnel type, with cards affecting them specifically (hand-eye coordination etc.)

3-SF writer: I don't remember his name in "Far Beyond the Stars", but like Benny(Sisko), there's not a whole lot to do with a writer beyond giving him the Writing skill. My idea for these guys was to have them "imagine" (download) science fiction concepts related to their characters. Can anyone help me with this? I can't remember what kinds of stories Julian's character wrote, but I think it was something about a race of supermen (would make sense). I'd then have him download enhanced individuals (including Roga Danar) or perhaps simply Implant cards.

4-Bashir, Julian Bashir: Bashir 007 makes for a great holo-personna. Security and/or Officer, his Strength and Cunning should be sky-high. But what kind of special ability would make sense here? How about "ricochet" effect that bounces stuns and wounds off 00Bashir and onto the would-be wounder? With the personnel battle rules, we're bound to see abilities such as these. Who better to represent it than this character who could shoot someone with their reflection in a champagne bottle as his only guide?

5-Mirror Bashir: Terran Bashir is a mean pirate of a man, the type of guy that gets labeled Treachery x3. I'm not suggesting the final card will have this (rather a fair collection of skills - none Medical), but it could be argued.

6-Torias Dax: The Dax host parceled out to Julian in "Facets", he was the hotshot pilot who lived fast and died young. In this guise, Bashir would have Navigation in spades, could probably get past Blended, etc. But the problem remains: how are the Dax facets going to figure into the game (if at all)? A card for the splicing ritual is a must... but what does it do. If it were to download these particular personnas onto anybody if a Dax present, we might see them. Sounds a bit complicated just to get extra personnel onto the spaceline...

7-Tiny Bashir: From "One Little Ship", when Bashir and others get shrunk inside a Runabout. The Runabout would make a neat concept, but the characters individually? No idea how to work it, but if it were up to me, the picture "screen" on the card would be tiny in the middle of a big blue Federation field. (Dare to dream.)

8-Old Bashir: From "Distant Voices", this is Bashir as he saw himself in that particular "mindscape", ever growing old because of psychic damage inflicted on him by a Lethean. Obviously, this character would be central to the "Mind Location", perhaps able to download the various facets of his personality for various effects. He would also have to have a limited life span (à la Timicin). I trust Decipher to do right by this concept if ever they pick it up.

9-LMH: The Long-Term Medical Hologram designed in "Doctor Bashir, I Presume?" to essentially be Dr. Bashir. Now, we can pick and choose - do we like the LMH that walked himself repeatedly into a wall? or how about the one with the EMH's sparkling personality? It's up to you! But seriously, LMH programs wouldn't be downloadable to outpost or ship (that's for emergencies!) but might be able to report there normally and even work at Holodeck free (normally) Outposts.

10-Vantika: You know Bashir's been possessed because he... speaks... very... slow...ly. Vantika (from "The Passenger") might make it as a card (using his previous body for the picture) but not in Bashir's guise. Still, I try to be as complete as possible.

11-Changeling imposter: The most seen Dominion imposter ever (he was Bashir during a number of episodes), this Bashiroid is just screaming for me to guess at Morphing. Morphing is probably going to be a skill shared by all Changelings, and by Salia and Anya too. How will it work? Well, I postulate something like "shape" cards that each detail a particular shape (mouse, satchel, Bashir...). These cards might go into a side deck (The Link?) or be downloadable "personna"-type cards in your draw deck. Once per turn, you may morph each Changeling into a shape (with all perks and abilities thereof). A Bashir shape would, since he's our example, have most of Julian's skills, all his attributes and the ability to espionnage Federation missions. I think "shapes" works better than putting any Personnel in The Link for shape-shifters to emulate (too powerful for one thing, and then you couldn't add Treachery to Bashir here for another). Also, different shapes might have different difficulty numbers so that Odo (and probably Salia & Anya too) can't take a Personnel's place with his Morphing x1, whereas others could with their x2 or 3 or even 4. This is gonna be an important concept later on - these guesses accurate at all?

12-Prophet: As I first mentioned in Sisko's article, the Prophets appear in the shows in the likenesses of all the regular characters. What I would like to see then, are Prophet cards (perhaps attainable through a Wormhole Doorway or contact with an Orb) that have effects related to the personna taken. Bashir-Prophet might be the healer of the group, the one who saves lives, cures the Nagus of greed etc. He could cure disease-like Dilemmas or be a kind of Res-Q for those that have died under certain conditions (AU conditions maybe?)

13-Julian in the 21st century: From "Past Tense", this "Gabe Bell"'s travelling companion. Still, he's pretty much Bashir himself. The only difference might be his being "from" a Time Location (but time travelers don't seem to count - see Montana Missile Complex, no Picard and gang). I say this one gets skipped.

14-Classic Trek Bashir: One of the funniest moments in the Tribbles episode is the one where Bashir thinks to have met his great-great-grandmother. What if he were to become his own ancestor? Add Download Predestination Paradox to a super-Medical with a Classic Trek icon and you've got a fun card to play with. So what's Predestination Paradox? Possibly a card that would work with the concept of Family (as indicated in card lore). Maybe it downloads fathers and mothers of the characters on the table or at a Time Location. Or it nullifies Temporal Investigations. Or all of the above. Or something.

15-Julian Bashir(TNG): If a character's inclusion in a movie merits a brand new card, how about series crossovers? Bashir appeared in the NextGen episode "Birthright" where he inadvertently zapped Data into dreamland. Cybernetics? Redirect Android Nightmares? That's all good and fine, but the REAL difference between this Bashir and DS9 one is his shoes. Yes, his shoes! If you watch the episode carefully, when Julian makes his exit at some point, we get a glimpse of his feet, and he's wearing... white shoes! Makes me want to go back to the Dancing Doctor idea (in Beverloids). Mr. Bo-Jangles Bashir would make a great dancing partner for Bev, better even than Data. To dream the impossible dream...

Alright, your turn! The only Bashiroids I've skipped consciously (like the horny Julian from "Fascination", for example) are the ones that are better served by a Dilemma. I'm also skipping half-seen holo-personnae like the one that fought the Battle of Brittain, etc. Not enough there to warrant a separate entry. If I've forgotten others, it's up to "the people" to let me know. Ideas on mutants are appreciated (not the X-kind though, that would just be wrong).
