L.C.T. Mark IV Landing Craft
July, 04 1999
I added these pictures of my completed L.C.T.'s along with construction instructions.
Construction materials
1. Foam-core board
2. 2 sherman tanks (15mm)
3. Glue, I used Tacky glue from a craft store.
4. Bondex Light Weight Spackling Compound, OR testors Contour Compound (putty)
I first abtained a photo of a model that one of my freinds had and proceeded to draw out a template. I made four templates in which three I cut out the middle section that would hold two sherman tanks. I then glued all four templates together and let dry.
After the glue had dried I ended up with uneven side surfaces so I sanded them down with a disk sander. The side were then even but the cardboard in the Foam-core showed through.
I painted the sides of two of the models I made and used 1 tube of Testors Model putty. After two coats of putty and sanding I decided that This putty wasn't what I wanted. I would have had to put three or more coats on to get rid of all the holes it had left. I then switched to the Spackling Compound. I was then able to put a thicker application to the side of the second L.C.T. and once dry it sanded out real nice. I then applied Spackling Compound to the third model and sanded with even better results than the first.
The first picture is the one I used with Testors Putty. You can see the roughness the putty left and would take much more work to get an even side.

The Second Picture is one that I used Spackling Compound on. This gives much better results over the Testors Putty.
