The Memphis Bop Club was born out of the frustration that  Memphis bop lovers felt when Chevy's closed in early 1986 and no other night club proprietors responded to our need.

On April 3, 1987, the first meeting of a handful of people was held.  These people were committed to the idea of forming our own "Bop Club".  These individuals were Tom Polzin, Glenda Martin, John Davis, Pete Wade, Bunny Lee and Lin Quint.  We committed our time and energy to pushing the idea of "The MEMPHIS BOP CLUB".

We prepared an application form and took them to Temptations, the only night club in town supporting 50's and 60's music at that time.  We quickly learned it was a good idea.  The response was overwhelming.

Starting with 50 plus members the first year, the club has now grown to a membership of 250 members as of July 1999.

Our first dance lessons were given to students in members homes.  Now we provide free dance lessons to our members at Archie's Rock-n-Roll Cafe each Tuesday night from 7-9pm.

Our first monthly parties were held in Lin Quint's clubhouse but we soon had to move to a larger location because of the growing number of members and the interest that was being generated by the club.

During our twelve years of existence, the Club has managed to establish itself with various fun-filled events such as our annual Halloween Party, Christmas Party, New Year’s Eve Party,  Valentine Party, and our annual Boat Trip to the Current River.

We're proud to say we were the "First Bop Club in Memphis" to remain successful, and we will always be successful as long as we as members support and remain active in our club.
