Special Agent Dana Scully

Personal: Agent Scully is a well-respected and highly organised agent, knowledgeable in the areas of forensic pathology. She does not share Agent Mulder's beliefs in the paranormal. She spent a year as an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley. There, she had a brush with political activism though her involvement never went further than reading leafles and engaging in occasional spirited "discussions" with her father. After one year, she transferred to the University of Maryland. Her medical training has been invaluable to the Bureau in the investigation of several cases assigned to the X-Files.

Special Agent Fox Mulder
Name: Fox William Mulder
Badge Number: JTT047101111
Height: 6 ft
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Green
Distinguishing Marks: Mole on right cheek
DoB: 13th Oct 1961
Birthplace: Chilmark, MA
Marital Status: Single
Education: Oxford University, A.B. in Psychology, 1982. Quantico FBI Training Academy, 1984.

Personal: Agent Mulder is convinced that his sister was abducted by aliens while he was paralysed by some unknown power. He believes that extraterrestrial powers perhaps aided by rogue government organisations, are continually visiting this planet. These beliefs have earned him the nickname "Spooky". He is not known to associate closely with other agents save for his partner, Agent Scully. Although well respected professionally, personally he is considered a maverick by other agents. His personality does not fit the profile of the ideal Bereau agent, although his record of success in his assigned area puts him among the top agents.

Assistant Director Walter S. Skinner

Assistant Director Walter S.Skinner is Fox Mulder and Dana Scully's supervisor. He is an ex-Marine: stern and demanding. His strict insistence on the by-the-book investigative techniques often puts him at odds with Mulder, whose unorthodox methods grate on the senior man. Skinner gets frequent visits from the mysterious Cigarette-Smoking Man, but the exact relationship is ambiguous at best. Although Skinner once shut down the X-Files section on "orders from above", he later reopened them on his own authority, and they have since stayed open.

The Cigarette-Smoking Man

From the moment Dana Scully was first assigned to the X-Files, the sinister chain-smoking man in the stiff suit has been keeping an eye on Mulder, Scully, and the X-Files. Tall, gaunt, with a tendency to squint, he has contacts in the black ops operations that thwart Mulder in his investigations, it is unclear whether he is aiding them or parrying their moves. The Cigarette-Smoking Man is very well acquainted with Mulder's father, William Mulder.

X

Decidedly more sinister than his predecessor Deep Throat, X loves the shadows. He rarely emerges clearly enough to be seen, and when he does he appears tense, edgy, paranoid. From the beginning he has said that he does not want to end up like Deep Throat, to whom he feels some loyalty, but not enough to get himself killed. X issues one order for every secret revealed, and his fear so consumes him that he won't hesitate to kill someone point blank if he sees them as a threat. On more than one occasion, he has refused to help Mulder or Scully.

The Lone Gunmen

These three operatives from the editorial staff of a conspiracy-oriented magazine known as The Lone Gunman, after the alleged second assassin in the Kennedy assassination. They have contacts and inside knowledge in a diversity of fields, and function as a kind of alternative think tank for Fox Mulder. Byers is neatly bearded, well dressed, and a very precise information systems expert. Langly is tall, rangy, blond, and spectacled. His specialty is communications. Frohike has a decided penchant for Agent Dana Scully. He serves as the photographic and special operations guru of the beach.

Agent Alex Krycek

When first seen, the clean-cut, fresh-faced Agent Krycek looks like a younger, less cynical version of Mulder himself. As time goes on, however, he is revealed as a double agent, working for The Cigarette-Smoking Man to thwart Mulder's attempts to reopen the X-Files. Krycek is eventually betrayed by The Cigarette-Smoking Man and must go on the run to save his life. Aliented, he sells government secrets he obtained to survive. These secrets almost end his life when they bring him in contact with a strange alien life form.

Deep Throat

Deep Throat, whose real name and affiliations were never revealed, was Mulder's most influential secret source. Able to obtain highly classified Top Secret documents, he had access to excellent resources for disinformation. However, he put his life in jeopardy every time he and Mulder met. While Mulder believed him inplicitly, Scully was more doubtful. Deep Throat said he worked for the CIA in Vietnam and belonged to an organization which had been guilty of "heinous acts against man". It appeared to be his goal to bring down this organization throught the actions of Mulder and Scully.

The Mulders

Mulder's sister, Samantha, disappeared when she was eight years old. Mulder is convinced that she was abducted by aliens. A woman claiming to be Samantha turns up in the middle of one of Mulder's cases. Bill Mulder, formerly of the State Department, is a cold, stern unsmiling man and a past associate of The Cigarette-Smoking Man. Mulder's mother is a warmer, gentler character. His parents are divorced.

The Scullys

Scully's home life and childhood were pretty normal. Her father, William, was a captain in the US Navy. His sudden death in 1993 was a blow to Dana. Her mother, Margaret, is the centre of the family and may have psychic ability. They have four children: Bill Jnr., Melissa, Dana and Charles. Melissa was a believer in miracles and had a tendency to spout New Age jargon. She was shot dead, mistaken for her sister.
