At the end of his journey, Sonny came to a town called Blacksburg. There just happened to be a university in Blacksburg, so Sonny decided to stop by for a few years to get a physics degree. He found shelter in a large structure that housed over a thousand other young men. He spent his first night on a stained mattress and he made his bed the next morning (No, he didn't straighten out his sheets, he literally put his bed together the next morning.).
The next day, Sonny met his roommate and his new neighbors. He noticed that they were all dorks, but anything was better than his cellmates in jail. He spent his first day eating all he could eat at the Dietrick dining hall, and then went to bed early in preparation for his first class at noon the next morning. He woke up the next morning to shower and eat all he could eat at Dietrick before going to his first class. There was a woman teaching his first class and she looked like Ricki Lake. She said some things and then Sonny went on to his next class, physics. His physics class was taught by a man who a lot like Bob Sagat, except he was a little shorter, looked more like John Stamos, and was twice as funny. After class, Sonny went home and studied for a long time. When it came time for dinner, Sonny went with a few friends and ate all he could eat at Dietrick.
The next few weeks past by in a similar fashion, except Sonny started sleeping in class, and he started to eat even more. Sonny enjoyed life in college, but he felt that something was missing. One friday, Sonny wandered around the campus and came upon a group of men passing around a football. Sonny grew excited at the sight of the oddly-shaped piece of cowhide and he started to feel a tingle inside. He joined in the game of blood and guts football and found what was missing in his college life. Once again, he could feel his jungle brethren within him. His stomach swelled like the mighty pygmy and he went after the ball like a wild sea monkey after a sea banana. When the game finally came to an end, Sonny was satisfied and went to Dietrick to eat all that he could eat.
Sonny was happy after playing football. The game had reminded him, not only of his swamp and jungle family, but his adopted family that had perished in the flood not long ago. He thought of his family often and wondered if there was any chance that they had survived. However, all of the thinking made him hungry and so he went to Dietrick to eat all that he could eat. Sonny's college days were not filled with much excitement. In fact, the days passed by very quickly and he only had a chance for small midnight snacks in between. Sonny kept in touch with some of his friends he knew from Thomas Jefferson, but he was still alone.
