After his first loss in the game of love, Sonny decided to concentrate once again on sports. Sports always made sense to Sonny, and sports always reminded Sonny of his life in the swamp. When Sonny competed, he didn't have to hold back his emotions out of fear of rejection. He didn't have to make the first move. He didn't have to smell nice. He could laugh, cry, and even pat men on their butts without worrying.
So, in the following weeks, Sonny would go to the schoolyard with his brother, Cain, and play basketball, football, and soccer. Cain was always jealous of his younger adopted brother. Not only did Sonny have more athletic ability and intelligence, Sonny was better looking.
One day, while at the schoolyard, Sonny was chosen as a captain for a game of soccer because of his great speed and ball-handling abilities. He chose his brother to be on his team and told him to be the goaltender. However, Cain did not wish to be his brother's keeper. Instead he wanted to attack. He slashed his away through the opponent's defenses and scored any way he could. Sometimes he fouled, sometimes he shot the ball from midfield, and sometimes he went back-door. In the end, their team won and Cain scored almost as many goals as Sonny did.
Cain was very upset and plotted for weeks, trying to come up with a way to get back at his brother for showing him up again. Unfortunately, Cain was such an idiot, he didn't get a chance to carry out his plan. Cain had to pack up his things and move out to college at Virginia Tech.
