Chapter 3 - The Fall of Sonny

With the tournament won, Sonny's spirits picked up, knowing this time that he not only did a good deed for others, but he did a good deed for himself. He walked off the basketball court and walked towards Eve as hundreds of his classmates began chanting his name. But as he neared his love, a funny look flashed across her face and she turned and walked away.

Sonny was puzzled. While dozens of girls were throwing themselves at him, the object of his dreams, his Eve, simply turned and walked away. He called out her name, hoping that he could stop her before she left. But she continued on her way, not even turning to look back at Sonny. She didn't care that he had won the tournament. She didn't care for his dashing good looks and his massive muscles. She looked at him, his clothes dripping with sweat and his body smelling of the earth, and she knew that she could never love an animal such as Sonny.

Sonny watched her walk away as tears filled his eyes. It was the first time he had cried in his whole life and he screamed as loud as the banshees of the swamp. His shrieks echoed throughout the gym and there he remained bawling until the gymnasium was empty. He had learned so much in his few years living in the world of man, yet he still did not understand women. He thought to himself and eventually stopped crying when he ran out of tears. It was at this time that the janitor needed to turn off the lights and drove Sonny out of the gym. Sonny walked out slowly with his head hung low. The janitor had seen the basketball game and knew that Sonny had won, so he wondered why Sonny was so sad. "Why so glum, chum?" he remarked to the young man. But as Sonny brought up his head to look at him, the janitor realized that there was only one thing that could make Sonny cry. "Don't worry about it," the janitor reassured Sonny. "She's not worth it. She can't even pee standing up." At this, Sonny began to smile and the janitor laughed, "That's good, turn that frown upside down." Then the janitor gave the young man some advice. "Just go home and be Sonny. By tomorrow, you'll have all the honeys."
