Eye of the Needle

Chorus:
Eye of the needle, calm in the storm.
Observe, mend, and depart--
In this profession, you can't have a heart.

Doctor, you have no idea how far a bad seam can run.
My job is to fix the garment whenever a customer comes.
I'm just a simple tailor whose good fabric is shiny and black.
When my factors remove my best colors, I have to watch my back.

(Chorus)

The competition is savage--your livelihood's always at risk.
That's why I keep up with my home world. Now why am I hearing you tsk?
Even a simple tailor must always have tools at hand.
It might be very unlucky not to have them at your command.

(Chorus)

Itinerant tailors are lonely, unlike some soldiers I know.
Even a faithful spouse wouldn't understand why I sew.
The apprenticeships are long and sometimes end with a bang.
For if someone can see your work, well that's where it all will hang.

(Chorus)

Children grow into adults, discarding old clothes without shame.
Your feelings towards your work and your customers must be the same.
You think you see some sentiment. Oh, doctor, that just wouldn't do.
If I were a spy I would lie. But if so, my lies would be true.

(Chorus)
