Kia'en was 14 when she learned she could channel. Her mother had been a Tower outcast, and had taught Kia'en the little of what she knew. The girl had advanced up to the point of being able to complete menial chores and basics, her mother knew more, but didn't have the time to teach her. She lived near the border, in Shienar, and was trained by her father in the art of war. By the time she was old enough to marry, Kia'en was skilled enough to match most boys her age. She had completed her training in early Spring, when her mother mysteriously died from a sickness that was both painful, and prolonged. Her screams still echo in Kia'en's mind.
Her father grew more and more irritable. One day he just walked out of the house, and spent almost two weeks fending on his own. He came back in the middle of the night, andbanged the door open. Kia'en had just woken from one of her all-too-real dreams. She looked up to find out that it had come true. Her father had started to waste away and passed out by her bedside; dead before he hit the ground.
After it was found out that he had died, Kia'en was accused of murder and left quickly, with Shienaran soldiers at her heels. After about 2 days of chasing, they gave up and told her that she would never show her face in Shienar again. That was when she decided to come to the Tower of Chasaline, with the hope of redeeming her father's name, and helping those who would befall his fate.
