Lizard Breath : Part IV

Worf pulled open the hatchway leading to the skull. Inside hundreds of drones worked on assimilating the captured colonists and recharged. Kebron whistled.

"So this is why this thing has such a high rating on the power scale," he muttered. Worf grunted and moved forward to a control panel. Kebron moved beside him and smiled. Well, if a Brikar _could_ smile. "You sure you can understand this?"

Worf scowled at him, the scowl that meant he was ready to bust your head into little bits, Brikar or not.

Lieutenant Soleta ran some simulations on the phasers and their effect on the Borg cubes. "That's IT!" she yelled with uncharacteristic enthusiasm. The Vulcan woman turned to see the stares of everyone except for McHenry on her. She blushed a greenish shade slightly and put her calculations up on the main viewer. She highlighted a few equations and smiled. "If we adjust our shields and phasers to these, then the shield disruptors should have no effect on us and the Cube would be damaged to the maximum extent possible."

Captain Calhoun shook his head. "Say that again?"

Soleta smiled again. "If we make these adjustments, then the shield disruptors will have no effect. If we make these, the phasers will shred the Cubes into space dust."

Calhoun smiled. "Good. Send the data to Burgoyne and to the other ships."

A minute later there was a call from Engineering. "Calhoun here. What is it, Mister Burgoyne?"

"Sir," the Hermat said, "it's impossible to make these adjustments and keep everything online. This is worse than the Marquis Phantom maneuver."

"You'll find a way," Calhoun said to hir.

Burgoyne struggled with changing the shields and phasers. S/he worked frantically, altering plasma injectors here, dilithium matrices there, and who knows what else. "Burgoyne to the bridge. I don't know how I did it, but the adjustments are made." Burgoyne then turned to a view of the Borg cubes. "May the Great Bird of the Galaxy roost on your planet. And hatch early!" s/he yelled as the first phaser volley lanced out and started explosions on the nearest cube. All the ships swerved in and concentrated fire on the cube. The cube quickly exploded under the strain. The other cube made towards the planet.

Kebron slammed a drone into another one. More piled into its place. He bellowed a war cry then used his phaser rifle as a club. He slammed it into the nearest drone's head, taking it off. He then rammed it into another drone's torso, creating a gaping hole there. The other drones started to re-evaluate their strategy. One charged a modified phaser and prepared to shoot them. Everyone was suddenly thrown off their feet as GodzillaBorg tipped over, ready to fall. Worf slapped his badge. "Worf to Defiant! Beam us up NOW!"

Kebron scrambled for a handhold as the transporter took him.

Kebron got up from the diagnostic table in the Defiant's small medical bay. He watched a viewer, ignoring Bashir's hands trying to drag him back. The cube shot away into a transwarp conduit, leaving this quadrant of the galaxy. Kebron and Worf walked out of sickbay to the transporter room, with Bashir trailing behind. They stepped up onto the pad with Sisko and several others and beamed across space to the planet below, ready to start clean-up.
