Today's LogBlog

October 26th, 2004

welcome to the LogBlog. My own comment on whatever I want to comment on. Call it my "commentary". I should update this more often than I update the other sections of the site. Should being the keyword here.

Today's Commentary
First Thoughts

- Well, this is the first of the LogBlogs. I wonder how it's going to turn out.

There is a certain amount of responsibility I feel in writing a commentary like this. I know that a lot of the reason people come here (yes, me and anyone I send a link to) is the humor I like to add in order to spice my works. While there certainly will be comedy in the LogBlog, I also want to take the time to put in more serious thoughts. I can certainly be serious. Heck, I'm being serious now. See?

Okay, so that last part wasn't entirely serious, but you get the point.

I guess the easiest place to start would be a look at the elections that are happening just next week. It's kind of crazy looking at it. You've got nearly a 50/50 split in the country. One half is for a jackass, one half is for the president. (Betcha can't guess who I'm voting for, eh?). The media is expecting some sort of record turnout for this vote. I think it is just record hype for an election.

First of all, the Democrats aren't really inspired by the Kerry/Edwards ticket. They are just inspired to vote against Dubbya. The Republican voters are vehemently pro-Bush and anti-Kerry. So maybe the Republican vote will be out stronger. I think maybe Dick Cheney keeps some of them from voting. He's kind of creepy. He's definetly evil, but no more evil than Kerry and Edwards. Kerry and Edwards were laywers. Insert your own lawyer joke here.

It seems the biggest complaint happening is the War in Iraq. War war war war war. I think its the media that is making this into such a big story, because as the old saying goes "If it bleeds, it leads." So the money, and lots of it, is riding on the revenue for news by filming violence, bloodshed, anarchy, Chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaos! And, let's face it, the majority of the media is slanted towards a liberal bias. We've been saying this for years. Democrats only started saying it had a conservative slant when Fox News (which yes, is decidedly conservative biased) came into the fold. Try to think of someone going "The media is too conservative and nasty to liberals" before FoxNews showed up. But, getting back to my point, I don't think the War in Iraq is going as horribley as the media portrays it. The majority of Iraqis love us and are glad we're there, but we get video of those that don't like us. It's how the media works, they show you the bad stuff becuase the good stuff is boring by comparison.

Speaking of "If it bleeds, it leads"... Americans (and the Western World at large) like to think we've passed the days when we watched sports for the blood and look down on those cultures that still have such a love for violence, yet look at America. Our media is full of violence and we can't stop watching. Our video games get gorier and more violent as time goes by. Television shows are more violent (Everyone's favorite show is about mobsters). I'm not one to rally against it though, I'm just as guilty for loving the violence and mayhem of video games and T.V. I just think we should stop pretending that we're better because we haven't built an arena to watch people get hacked to bits...yet.

It's not all doom and gloom or mischief and mayhem for us though, we do have some great things. We are a creative people and a freedom loving kind. Maybe Americans are a bit lazy anymore, but that's because we have all our wonderful technology to help us in our days. We have computers and TV and DVD and gadgets out the ass. Some people also call us stupid...but I figure it becomes irony when they call us stupid on TV...or Radio...or a computer (especially over the Internet)... We invented all those things, by the way. So we're not stupid...not all of us anyway. Sure, you get your average tornado witness that sounds like fifth grade was the toughest eight years of his or her life, but then again...he could probably fix your car or plumbing or electricty. We have our uber-smart people too, the ones that invent things (like said computers) or find cures for diseases (such as when your winkie doesn't wink anymore). And we have the most creative people, we have more celebrities than some countries have people. It's kind of insane, but it works. We have thousands of musicians, actors, and various artists. We've invented at least six or seven styles of music. When's the last time you heard about some sort of new music style from France or Germany? The last thing France invented was the how to surrender in German...and the last thing Germans came up with was a thousand and one ways to cook a Jew. Face it, the best and brightest hopped a boat and came here. So I laugh at Europe and their snooty views of America, Ha ha ha.

Ranting is fun.

So, I guess I can go a little bit into my life. I just have to pick and chose what I make public. Works for me.

I hate my job. With a passion. Its not really a single factor, but a series of factors that just goo into a big steaming pile of hatred. It's crazy, I know, but I keep going back and working my ass off. I will be searching out for a new job though, very soon. I hope I can find something where I can do this Internet thing for a living isntead of jockeying a register. Hell, I'd even try a bookstore or a video game store or something that requires less stupid people.

My RPG group finally ended our 3+ year journey through the wonderful realm of Middle-Earth. Now I'm stuck with an unholy amount of knowledge about that world and have nowhere to put it. But I had lots of fun in the group and made such dear friends through it. We all started out as strangers, but now we're pretty much family. Just that pesky DNA connection we lack, I'm sure we could fix that with a little radiation though.

Well, folks. I can't seem to figure out anything else to add to this strange and wonderful trip we just embarked upon, but I'm sure I'll have more for you at another time. At least until I get bored with this.

Until then,
Logray X the Starfly
