1.In ST: Voyager, one of the actresses can act. Unfortunately, there are so many bad actors on the show that this doesn't seem to make much difference. BTW, if you are wondering, it happens to be Jennifer Lien, the one who plays Kes. She's the only convincing one in the lot. Hell, I can act better than most of them. But that's just because I happen to like plays. In the past 7 years I've done 14 plays, monologues, and a zillion little skits.

2.You're right about one thing: B5 is the best science fiction show out there. But you're a lunatic for rating ST:TNG better than ST:TOS. ST:TNG is a bunch politcally correct crap, where every week they have a holodeck emergency and solve it by the end of the episode by reciting some inchorent technobabble. Give me Kirk & Co. anyday of the week. At least I can have some fun watching that, instead of Data debating whether or not a bunch of flying toasters are sentient beings or watching the all-powerful Wesley Crusher achieving godhood. All you are doing is comparing special effects. I rather have substance than whole lot of bells and whistles. -RORUGA21@pacbell.net

3.I am a BIG B5,Space above and beyond and star treck fan l think that this is a great web site for Sci Fi fans like myself. Is it true that Space above and beyond won't be shown in the uk after it's first season? I want to know coz I've read in the Private Eye magasine that it was scraped in the first season. I would also like to say that I don't think that Star Trek's Voyager hasn't got enough "bite" to it but B5 and Space above and beyond has and that's probably why I like them.

4.Babylon 5 is a great show which is setting a new level for Sci-FI shows. I'm glad to see so many open minded people who devote their time to this show and alow it to go beyond the rim to set new standards for all Sci-Fi sagas yet to come.

5. I don't like the way the media like entertainment tonignt, entertainment weekly, and tv guide, ignore Babylon 5.

6. I am looking for some sounds or any wave or midi stuff from B5

7. OK, I'll bite. Firstly B5 is a very accomplished effort. The stories are internally consistent, the acting is good & the ideas are genuine sf (it's good to see Harlan Ellison's ideas get a decent run for a change). I agree with some of your comments re the Star Treks, but will always go with the original because of one overridng quality - SPIRIT! Another commentator hit the nail on the head with NextGen's interminable political correctness. I swear, the plots for some eps were lifted straight of a liberal studies curriculum. At least in the original they had a sense of adventure and (dare I say it) humour! The most dissapointing thing for me about Trek's children is that they represent absolutely the wrong way to confront the final frontier (has anyone noticed how conservative and militaristic the Fed has become in 24C - nary a "Bones!" or "Jim!" to be heard). Well, that's enough of my ramblings (btw no serious sf comparison is complete without Red Dwarf - or, are you out of the loop on th --Micheal

8.PLEASE POST THIS. B5 in terms of good quality sci-fi entertainment is on par with X-Files and Red Dwarf.. As far as you rating ST:TNG as "great", that in my opinion is a JOKE. How can anyone like a show that is so diametrically opposite of B5? ST:TNG universe is homogenized, sterile, elitist, and at the same time has the gall to put on a face of political correctness. I cringe whenever Data or LaForge mentions neutrino waves, deflector shield frequencies, or tachyon emissions. They might as well be saying: "Green eggs and ham. Green eggs and ham." What's the difference? It's all gibberish. That's why I admire B5 so much. HUMAN solutions. NOT TECH solutions. Sinclair and Sheridan thinking and fighting for answers literally with their own blood, sweat and tears. No recalibrating gadgets, no handy-dandy all knowing androids to bail them out, no comfortable, antiseptic, neatly pastel carpeted invincible starships and no damn holodecks.
Check out JMS' views on NEW ST on Compuserve and AOL for yourself. It will validate everything I've written.
BABYLON 5 and ST:TOS are GREAT. Why? HUMAN solutions. X-FILES is GREAT. Why? It's smart and doesn't insult your intelligence. And if you haven't seen RED DWARF, you should. It's humor flies in the face of everything that ST:TNG stands for.

My response: Well... these are some very interesting remarks and observations you have made, and I have to say I can't refute anything you had said about TNG. Everything that you had noted about it is true. But as for people liking it, I really don't know why. But people, including me, do like it. It just seems to have this charisma to it. The cast you can really identify with. They aren't overly patriotic, jerk-like, perfect, or stupid, as in Voyager's case. As for the PO, absolutley correct in your saying, but the PO does give some idea on the government and values in TNG. The PO has to be somewhat accurate too, like you can't solve everything by shooting phasers and torpedoes at another race. (But in Voyager's case, they could break a few rules since they are 75,000 light-years from earth anyways, and they seem to be overly pacifist, more so than TNG's crew.)
And the technobabble? Also correct, but they do seem to balance it nicely with regular, good-old fashioned speech. (Not so in Voyager's case). I always felt TNG needed more action, but when I was obsessed with it around 5 years ago, I never had any complanints. The characters, even Data, are very human. They have their faults and their unique character, and they aren't mechanical at all.
Reason I don't like TOS much: 1. Corny, not in the effects, but in some of the painful diologe, and there seems to be a really tacked-on fistfight in every episode.
2. God, I hate that music too.
3. Just like in TNG and Voyager, some ideas are just stupid, but TNG pulls the story off better it seems. DS9 is the most realistic out of these, and it has most of the good qualities of B5 too. Also, very little technobabble for a Trek show.
As for Red-Dwarf, I have never seen it, where is it on? I didn't hear about any such show until I started this page.
I know the reasons I give for defending TNG aren't very concrete but people like it for some reason. Ask most people. They'd agree that TNG is the standard in Treks. 1
