FACT FILE: Support Craft Pilot MOSs
650 Drop Shuttle, Light (Intruder)
Pilots of this MOS learn to fly the S-10 Intruder, the smallest of the
SFMC Drop Shuttles. All drop shuttle pilots learn to navigate and fly through
bad weather, heavy enemy fire and dangerous terrain, dropping off their
cargo at a specific point. Drop shuttle pilots also learn basic ground
support tactics in order to clear a safe landing or extraction zone, using
the drop shuttle's onboard weapon systems. The small size and handling
characteristics of the Intruder make it distinctly different to fly than
the other drop shuttles used by the SFMC.
651 Drop Shuttle, Medium (Gladiator)
Pilots of this MOS learn to fly the S-12 Gladiator, the most common type
of drop shuttle used by the SFMC. All drop shuttle pilots learn to navigate
and fly through bad weather, heavy enemy fire and dangerous terrain, dropping
off their cargo at a specific point. Drop shuttle pilots also learn basic
ground support tactics in order to clear a safe landing or extraction zone,
using the drop shuttle's onboard weapon systems. The handling characteristics
and vehicle carrying capability of the Gladiator make it distinctly different
to fly than the other drop shuttles used by the SFMC.
652 Drop Shuttle, Heavy (Invader)
Pilots of this MOS learn to fly the S-14 Invader, the largest of the drop
shuttles used by the SFMC. All drop shuttle pilots learn to navigate and
fly through bad weather, heavy enemy fire and dangerous terrain, dropping
off their cargo at a specific point. Drop shuttle pilots also learn basic
ground support tactics in order to clear a safe landing or extraction zone,
using the drop shuttle's onboard weapon systems. The large size and handling
characteristics of the Invader make it distinctly different to fly than
the other drop shuttles used by the SFMC.
653 Tactical Transport, Small (Hercules)
Pilots of this MOS are trained to operate the T-2 Hercules, the smallest
of the tactical transports employed by the SFMC. All Hercules pilots learn
to fly in extremes of weather and ground fire, conduct precision resupply
drops and perform rapid loading and unloading of personnel and equipment.
The Hercules is most often used to resupply small units or deliver mission
critical medical supplies to remote locations. Because of the Hercules
limited cargo capacity and its dual cargo lifters, it is significantly
different to fly than other SFMC transports.
654 Tactical Transport, Medium (Titan)
Pilots of this MOS are trained to operate the T-4 Titan, the most commonly
seen type of tactical transport employed by the SFMC. All Titan pilots
learn to fly in extremes of weather and ground fire, conduct precision
resupply drops and perform rapid loading and unloading of vehicles and
equipment. The Titan is most often used to resupply medium sized units
or multiple vehicles in a single move. Because of the Titans vehicle carrying
capacity and its roll-on roll-off loading style, it is significantly different
to fly than other SFMC transports.
655 Tactical Transport, Heavy (Atlas)
Pilots of this MOS are trained to operate the T-6 Atlas, the largest tactical
transport employed by the SFMC. All Atlas pilots learn to fly in extremes
of weather and ground fire, conduct precision resupply drops and perform
rapid loading and unloading of vehicles and equipment. The Atlas is most
often used to transport multiple combat vehicles or entire SFMC units in
a single move. Because the Atlas has such a large vehicle carrying capacity
and is so much larger than the T-2 or T-4, it is significantly different
to fly than other SFMC transports.
656 Medivac Transport, Light (Valkyrie)
Pilots of this MOS are trained to operate the S-30 Valkyrie, the standard
light emergency medical transport employed by the SFMC. All Valkyrie pilots
learn to fly low and fast, making rapid precision landings in difficult
terrain, and then evacuating wounded personnel in the face of direct enemy
fire. It takes a high degree of piloting skill and personal courage to
fly these unarmed vehicles into and out of a combat zone, time and time
again.
657 Medivac Transport, Heavy (Valor)
Pilots of this MOS are trained to operate the S-34 Valor, the standard
heavy emergency medical transport employed by the SFMC. The Valor is built
to deliver a complete Field Medical Team into a combat area, then load
up to three dozen wounded personnel and evacuate them to rear areas. Pilots
who fly this vehicle must rely heavily on countermeasures and armed escorts,
as there are often surgical operations being conducted aboard during flight.
The S-34 Valor is also used as the standard Space Rescue and Recovery vehicle.
Many Strategic fighter pilots owe their lives to the Valor and her crews.
658 Aerospace Control & Surveillance (Paladin)
Pilots of this MOS learn to fly the E-5 Paladin, the most sophisticated
aerospace command/control/communications craft ever built. This vehicle
is rarely seen near the forward edge of battle, being unarmed and practically
defenseless. However, its true strength lies in its ability to communicate
with and coordinate the actions of up to 120 other aerospace craft, including
starships. All Paladin pilots learn to perform preflight inspections of
their vehicle, basic maintenance and upkeep, inflight system diagnostics,
interstellar navigation and basic extravehicular survival techniques. They
also receive extensive training in electronic countermeasures, from standard
in-atmosphere effects through sophisticated subspace techniques for deep
space employment against starships.
