Spread over 220 acres and set against the backdrop of tantalizing blue waters of the Bay of Bengal, is the technological jewel of the coromandel coast - P.E.C.

Established in 1984, with the approval of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India and fully sponsored by the Government of Pondicherry, Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC) is destined to be a pioneer Institute of Technological excellence.

The Institute has all the infrastructure of a Regional Engg. College and is affiliated to the Pondicherry (Central) University.

The college is situated on the East Coast road (between Chennai - Pondicherry) and at a distance of about 8 kms from Pondicherry Town, in the village of Pillaichavady. The Pondicherry Central University campus is located adjacent to P.E.C.

The international establishment of Auroville is situated between the college and Pondicherry town.

Getting there

Pondicherry can be reached road from chennai (Madras) and most other places. Train services exist only from Chennai,Villupuram and Tirupati.

From chennai: Take a bus to pondy which comes via the ECR or Marakkanam and get down at the college entrance (after the Pondy University Second Gate).

From other places: From the Pondy bus stand (New Bus Stand), get on a bus to KanagachettyKulam or  Kalapet and get down at the college entrance.

Admission related Information

(The following Information are from my understanding only)

Students who want to enter the institution have to take an entrance exam. Both the marks from this exam and the qualifying exam (H.Sc or eq.) are considered.

The syllabus for the exam can be got from the Information Brochure (and is not strictly based on the Tamil Nadu H.Sc syllabus).

The appilcation forms and the Information Brochure can be got from the College. (This year the tentative date for issue is April 15 th - see notifications in national dailies or Contact me )

Of the total 360 seats,( 5 depts X 60 + 2 depts X 30) 85 % is reserved for the local candidates (from Pondicherry).

(Some seats are reserved for candidates sponsored by the MHRD - I don't know how many)

Hostels are available for students from other places.
