Disclaimer - Trek is the property of Paramount/Viacom, although, if I were them, there are some parts I wouldn't claim. Neelix and Wesley for instance.

Author's Note - I read somewhere that all J/C writers must do a stuck turbolift story, so I'm getting this one out of the way early.

*SWISH!* The turbolift doors closed behind Kathryn Janeway and her husband Chakotay as they headed for their quarters and the end of Alpha shift. "Well, this was your last duty shift for the next two months. Do you think you can handle it?" Chakotay asked, glancing at his wife with concern.
Kathryn sighed and rubbed her very round stomach. "If you had asked me that before I had gotten pregnant, I would have told you that you would have needed the whole security force to drag me off the bridge, kicking and screaming. But now...I'm almost glad. I've been so sore lately, especially my feet. They're killing me!"
Chakotay's strong arms encircled her waist, infusing her with strength and support. "I'll give you a foot rub when we get home. And just think...it about a month or so, this will be all over, and we'll have our son."
Kathryn grimaced. "You try being that optimistic when you're eight months pregnant! And besides, it's going to be a girl."
"Care to go to Sickbay and have the Doctor settle this bet?" Chakotay grinned mischieviously at her; they had bet about a month ago that the loser would have to be the winner's love slave for a week. Of course, since neither of them particularly minded that fate, they really couldn't lose. However, both Kathryn and Chakotay had a fierce competitive streak in them, and the loser was sure to have to endure endless, "I told you so's."
"Why do I need to have the Doctor confirm it? I know I'm right," Kathryn retorted.
Chakotay opened his mouth to formulate a reply, but before a single syllable could leave his mouth, the 'lift jerked to a halt and the lights went out. "Chakotay to Engineering," Chakotay called, with no response. He repeated the command into his lifeless command, but as expected, no reply came. "Well, it looks like we're stuck here for awhile." Kathryn gasped, and Chakotay squeezed her hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, Kathryn, we're going to be okay."
"No...we...are...not," Kathryn gasped through clenched teeth.
Chakotay was about to ask her what was wrong, when a deluge of water hit his leg. His throat went dry, "Is that...is that what I think it is?"
Kathryn nodded, an action Chakotay felt, more than saw, in the gloomy dark. "My water just broke. I don't supposed you're a qualified obstetrician, are you?"
"Not exactly...but I watched my mother give birth once," Chakotay replied, hoping like hell the turbolift would be fixed in time.
"Uh-huh. And how old were you at the time?" Kathryn asked, then choked down a scream as a contraction passed through her.
"Uh...about five."
"Oh great, a lot of good that's going to do me. Wasn't this covered in Emergency Medical Situations 101 at the Academy?" Kathryn snapped.
"I think I was sick that day," Chakotay said, taking off his jacket and rolling it up. "Here...lay down on the floor and use this for a pillow." Grunting. Kathryn did as she was told, and that's when the fun began. . .

* * *

A couple of hours later, the 'lift jerked to life, just as Kathryn gave one final push. Kathryn panted with relief as her child cried loudly upon entering the world. "Gods...I'm glad that's over. Chakotay...I didn't really mean all those things I said. You're not a heartless bastard, and you can touch me."
"I know you didn't," Chakotay said, as he wrapped his son in his turtleneck and handed him to Kathryn. "Oh, and by the way...I was right."
"Okay, so maybe I did mean all those things I said!"

The End

The Doctor will roll his eyes times this season!
