Chapter 26

Chicago Shutout

3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN
Sally: "I come from a place where the wind blows cold... and the only thing you can count on is that you can't count on anything"
Don: "You come from Chicago?"

Goodbye? Saturday January 1 2000--after effects of New Year's Eve in Chicago at Allstate Arena, where Enuff Znuff, Dokken and Def Leppard played the night before. It was a grand celebration of the ending of a century--the beginning of a new millenium. My thoughts have led me to the conclusion that this is truly the end of my adventure. Let me say more:

Gale Piper was a prize loser. We headed on this trip which she had won thru a radio station, WNNK104fm. Gale called to confirm our room reservations but due to a power outtage near her work, she never got information on how/where to obtain the backstage passes;-/ When we went to the box office to get our passes, we were way too late!

We were told, "No way". The band was in their dressing room! Ripped off again! Here it was, New Year's Eve, we were supposed to be with Def Leppard for the ultimate party and we were shut out! I might as well have been dead.

I had a wish to see Def Leppard perform before the year 2000. I never really wished to go backstage with that this would become a reality, I went ahead with the belief that this would all come true. I mean, it did seem nostalgic to have a toast with the boys to ring in the new year and millenium. But what I found was that I now wanted more than ever to go backstage and be with the band! This did not happen, so now I have been totally shot down and discouraged. Thereis no way to replace what I missed, go back in time, correct what needed to be corrected, so I had just vowed toLET IT GO. There is nowhere to go with this feeling. It is like total death. I feel betrayed and disgusted. This was not meant to be "GOODBYE!!"

Sec 103 Row E Seat 5
* Shut out, but this was not meant to be "Goodbye"!
* * OK, as a fan, I still have a great concert review
* bout the DL show of the century--by far the best of shows! We arrived by cab as the doors opened, thrilled to be there with all the excitement brewing. Yeah, this was goin to be a wonderful show no matter what! Even if I was in a 'funk' from not gettin to go backstage for a toast, that wasn't goin to spoil my night! This turn out was an exceptional crowd, all raisin their hands in unison to clap with the beat of Rick's drum, as I had only seen on video footage of the '93 live performance. All my agonies and pent-up frustrations just seemed to melt away as I danced my heart out! Joe with New Year's Eve hat and long tiger skin coat, seemed much more younger and healthier than the last time I'd seen him in York. Viv and Sav were tight, standin there smilin and seemin to radiate in the sparklin illumination of the lights. Phil and Rick were right-on with their timing, strikin perfect rhythm song after song. These guys really conveyed a sense that they were truly enjoyin this show as much as the crowd in attendance! As a true fan, I must admit I was so overwhelmed by their performance, that I cannot set into words how great their performance was-- the most unforgettable concert I've ever attended! What more to say? But Happy New Year--the best is yet to come:-)
