7/20/96 Montage Mountain Scranton
* Section 200 Row B Seat 18
* * High atop a mountain, bein blown away by Def Leppard!
* * * We give this concert six stars, because we saw two shows:
A warm-up session we watched on a hill in the playground
overlookin the stage. Vivian and Rick A. were out practicin
a few chords and drumbeats. As Nick had told us, Phil had
bleached his hair and Sav got a haircut! Now, the four of
them stood on the stage playin intro to Billie's Got a Gun.
Dawn and I were singin a verse when Joe appeared! We got
to watch the Leps play at least a dozen or so songs, some
of Led Zepplin, while I danced beside the playground equip-
ment (wearin my purple autographed Playground Lounge T-shirt)!
After about 45 minutes, the Leps cleared the stage and we
hung out in the parking lot for three hours until the show.
Once inside, ran into Nick and his wife, Diane. He sold
Dawn some photographs he had taken of the Leps at the previous
two shows. When we did enter the arena, Dawn was allowed
to take in her camera, but my poster and tube were not
allowed! The concert was an exceptional success due to
the fact that the Leps stood and posed for Dawn takin 40
or more photographs! Joe looked at Dawn once, and I felt
his gaze pierce her and indirectly look at me. Joe did
finally give me a direct glance singin the verse, "You
make every man feel like a child," from Photograph! He
kneeled in front of microphone (Dawn did not see this) and
licked the stand with his tongue sensually! At the end
before the encore, durin Love Bites, I felt a sadness turn
inside me while Joe sang a verse to me, I began to pout my
lips, which I felt both Sav and Phil observed. Then, just
as mysteriously as my feeling turned to sadness, Joe put
microphone down by his side, walked to the front of the
stage in front of me, looked me directly in the eyes, said,
"Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport," then he said, "get closer
to me baby--we're watchin you!" then turned and walked
away! As I was readin his lips from 20 feet away, I paused
to assess the words bein formed by his lips, not entirely
comprehending their meaning until several days later, as I
had time to think about it. At the time I said to Dawn,
"What did Joe just say to me?", but as usual, she was not
payin' attention. * * *
The Leps left the stage when Dawn and I attempted to throw
the gift baggies I'd made up with friendly plastic name tags
and guitar pins inside. Four out of five dropped short of
the stage and the one that landed in the center of the
stage, Joe stopped to pick it up!
As an encore, they played Let's Get Rocked, a song on
Rockline they said they weren't goin to play anymore!
Surprise, surprise! After the show, Joe motioned as he
waved good-bye (motionin westward, which I figured out
a month later that he meant 'west gate at the airport'!)
Vivian in his own way, made up to me by comin to front of
stage and made a few sequential expressions toward me,
smilin at me finally before walkin away!
We felt the Leps performed to their highest degree, all the
while posin for pics.
