Savar
steps forward, entering the Captain’s Ready Room. “Sir, may I have a moment
of your time?”
The
Captain looks up from his Doman reports. “What’s on your mind, Counselor?”
“As
I’m sure you’re aware of, we’re having problems with our Medical Officer.
I must admit, I’m unsure how to deal with her.”
The
Captain sighed and put down the PADD. “I was afraid of something like this.
I had hoped to keep things in house, but apparently that is not going to
be an option. How bad is it?”
Savar
sits down across the desk from Captain Morgan. “I’m breaking patient confidentiality
only because of the escalation of the problem... she has many severe psychological
problems, as I indicated in my original report. This recent assault on
Doctor Utoo appears to be related to at least one, if not many, of her
problems, the main one at this time being her anorexia. She refuses treatment.”
“Counselor,
I appreciate that both you and Doctor Utoo wish to help Doctor Calahan
as much as possible. But her recent actions are becoming a detriment to
this crew. I want options on how to proceed. Preferably in a way to maintain
her commission.”
“To
be honest, options are few. So far, she continues to refuse medical treatment
from Doctor Utoo or myself. Her nature of keeping to herself also makes
psychological breakthrough and treatment nearly impossible. I have not
attempted to go further, into biological or bioneural methods of treatment
yet, but I am hesitant to do so.”
“To
be honest, if you’re not sure you can help, we may have to turn this over
to a better equipped facility.”
“That
is the other option I have considered. I have also told Doctor Calahan
of this. Right now, I plan on accompanying her to Vulcan to visit and receive
treatment from several Vulcan High Masters.”
“Very
well. If this fails, I don’t know what we’re going to have to do. Do what
you can. However, I want a report on my desk as to the Doctor’s ability
to function as a viable member of this crew, without presenting a danger
to herself or others.” The Captain steeples his fingers. “Keep me informed,
Counselor. And I do mean informed,” he adds with a pointed look.
“I
will keep you updated as often as possible, sir.”
The
Captain and the Counselor sit for a few minutes discussing plans and several
other important items before Savar excuses himself to complete his plan.
To be continued...
