This is the first of the "Robin of Sherwood" series which starred Michael Praed. It begins by setting up the background for much of Robin's trouble, the Silver Arrow. This is an arrow sacred to Herne the Hunter, and it is Robin's job to keep it safe. At the start of the episode, Robin's father, Aelrik of Loxley, is killed by the Sherrif of Nottingham, who takes the arrow. The rest of this two - part story sets up how Robin becomes an outlaw, and how he meets all the other 'Merry Men', as it were ! In the title, it referrs to a sorcerer, who is the Baron de Belleme. It is Robin of Loxley who Herne chooses to become his son, and to retrieve the arrow for him. When the Sheriff of Nottingham sets up an archery competition in which the first prize is the arrow, Robin has to enter it to try and get it back. He does this by disguising himself as an old man. When he wins the competition, the sheriff spots that his hands are those of a young man, and not the old man that he makes out to be. When Robin is discovered, he has his men waiting to attack the sherrif's men, and so he escapes back to Sherwood Forest, where his camp is. The arrow is then taken by the Baron de Belleme, who tries to sacrifice the Lady Marion. But when Robin turns up, he bewitches him so that he will kill Marion. But as he is about to do it, he turns and kills the Baron with the silver arrow instead, and rescues Marion. It is this that sets the scene for all of the 'Robin of Sherwood' episodes to come because it shows how he met the rest of the men in his gang. Little John, Friar Tuck, Will Scarlet, Much, Nasir and the Lady Marion.
