The Law Dogs - Actions

When the Law Dogs takes action, it must be swift and decisive. It's not necessarily legal, but this is the Weird West: a certain amount of "enthusiam" can be overlooked when it comes to bringing in murderers and thieves. Of course, being lawmen gives the Law Dog certain advantages as well.

Lynch Mob Cost 0 / Value Eight / Rare

Judge Warwick: Yeah, it's a real shame about the citizens of Gomorra takin' the law into their own hands. Still, it does make my job a little easier. Maybe I'll get a chance to take up some fishing.

Hunter's Notes: Obvious a useful card, and one that draws a high price. It does have its problems, though. If your opponent can keep his Dudes together in a mob, or shifts them carefully, you're going to have trouble topping their Bullet Rating. It also requires that you have a fair number of Dudes: high Upkeep can sometimes make that tricky for the Law Dogs. If you're not careful, you can end up booting the Dudes to mob and have your opponent grab something away from you. It's also not necessarily of much use against a Turtle deck: even the weakest Outfits probably have enough Bullet Rated-dudes to make this tricky. Overall, though, still a good card, and can definitely hold the Blackjacks at bay.

Warrant Cost 0 / Value Five / Common (in Pine Box as well)

Deputy John Templeton: Easy or hard, it's all the same to me. Matter of fact, I kinda like it 'hard.'

Hunter's Notes: A nice, simple way to make Dudes Wanted if they're not in a hurry to do it themselves. Just remember that you've got to Ace 2+ Influence Wanted Dudes to get Control Points. Still, Charlie Flatbush and Throw Your Weight Around should help you out here.

Clean Up The Town Cost 0 / Value King / Common (also in Pine Box)

J.P. Coleman: My "near death" experience has convinced me that the criminal element in Gomorra is definitely out of the hand. Someone's goin' to have to clean up this place, and it looks like its goin' to be me.

Hunter's Notes: A good way to force a Shootout, without having to go to a lot of effort to track him down (note that you aren't Booted if he refuses, and that you are moved there without Booting if he accepts). This definitely forces your opponents' Dudes to stay close at home and/or stay together in big clumps.

Bounty Hunter Cost 1 / Value Six / Rare (Uncommon in Pinebox)

Reverand Simon MacPherson: It ill behooves me, a man of the cloth, to have to go out and fight the criminal element. I'm content to preach against it from my pulpit, while hiring the best that money can buy to track down the blackguards and bring them to justice.

Hunter's Notes: Why put one of your own Dudes at risk when you can call up a Bounty Hunter and send him or her out instead. Your opponent can't turn down the challenge, and you can still use Shootout-type cards for the Bounty Hunter. Heck, give him a Derringer and turn him into a real fighting machine (ooh). It's cheap, and gives your opponent plenty to worry about. What more can you ask for?

Crack Shot Cost 0 / Value Two / Rare (Uncommon in Pine Box)

Corky Hendrick: I can attribute my success and long livability to three things: practice, practice, practice. And not just against paper targets, either.

Hunter's Notes: A cheap way to turn Nate Hunter into a 5-Stud fighting machine, and it can't be Phantom-Fingered or Sally Daniel'd away, either. Also good if one of your Dudes who is already a Stud ends up running Out of Ammo. Even Corky can become a Stud-4 with a decent pull.

Pistol Whip Cost 0 / Value Six / Rare (Uncommon in Pine Box)

Hector Casparo: A friend of my friend Doc taught me this one. I'm a peaceable man by nature, but sometimes a man is going to remain convinced you're cheatin' at cards no matter what. I find that a quick blow to the head can settle disputes quite admirably, without drawing further attention from the local law enforcement.

Hunter's Notes: Another pretty cool card, for when there ain't enough Wendy to around. Actually, it's better than her ability, since it lets the user stay in the battle. Let Hector Casparo Pistol Whip a Dude or two out of the opposing side, and still use his card-drawing ability.

Human Shield Cost 0 / Value Ace / Common

Nate Hunter: The townsfolk didn't seem to be too concerned when my predecessor died. Or when Miss Hendricks died. I can't say I'm too concerned about them getting in the way of a few bullets now. Seems to me they've picked the wrong time, and far too late, to worry about that kind of thing.

Hunter's Notes: If you've only got one guy, and don't care if he becomes Wanted, this basically makes him invulnerable. If that Dude is going solo and can generate a high-rank Hand. you may not need a second round of a shootout. The Law Dogs have the additional advantage that stuff like the innate Law Dog un-Wanted ability and the Courthouse will get rid of that little Wanted penalty ASAP. And hey, you can make a Dead Man's Hand from it, too.

Drawing a Bead Cost 0 / Value Six / Rare

Nash Bilton: Yeah, okay, I ain't the shootist that Coleman or Hunter are. Let's just say I like to take it a little slow. Give me enough time, and I'm a heck of a better shot than they'll ever be.

Hunter's Notes: Since the Law Dogs have multiple Studs, this can "bounce" rather nicely. Yeah, no one you've got on their own is probably going to rival Nate Hunter, but if you have them Draw a Bead, their tripled Bullet Rating next round probably will. The problem is getting folks to stick around: Nowhere to Run is probably what you'll want to make sure they stick around.

Luck of the Draw Cost 0 / Value Seven / Common

Hector Casparo: What can I say? You have to know when to hold 'em, and when to fold 'em. Know when to walk away, know when to run... Catchy, ain't it?

Hunter's Notes: If the one-rank boost from a Quick-Draw Holster, and/or the two-rank boost from a martyred Corky Hendricks (exp), ain't enough, then Luck of the Draw will push your hand up one rank further, and ace yet another Dude. It's essentially Fannin' the Hammer, but helps to assure that you win in the first place. For one extra cost, that's not bad.

Ambush Cost 5 / Value Five / Common (Uncommon in Pine Box)

Deputy John Templeton: Hey, I was there when the shootout went down between us and Black Jack's gang. Took a wound for my efforts, and a vist to Doc Branson's. So believe me when I say, going up face-to-face against them wasn't the smartest thing Sheriff Hunter ever did. If the law ain't got a problem with bushwhackin' a Wanted crook, then neither do I.

Hunter's Notes: Kinda pricey, but it has the advantage that if they're Wanted when you Ambush them, then you don't become Wanted. You don't get the VP for Acing them via this card (since it ain't a Shootout), but you can always put them in jail. Or if you're lucky, they'll try to defend themselves.

Secret Identity Cost 3 / Value Nine / MoH Common

J.P. Coleman: Well, actually, yes, Mr. Findley, the idea of a "Loan Ranger" shooting ghost rock bullets at you is kinda funny. I suggest you go check over with Katie Karl - that sounds like somethin' more in her field of expertise. But it's kinda low on my list of priorities, though. My boys got enough to do enforcin' the law without either runnin' around checkin' on some half-assed vigilante, or tendin' to the poor wanted darlins' that he happens to bring in for us.

Hunter's Notes: For when you just have to call out a Wanted Dude on their private property, and you've got better things to do then Boot your other Dudes to clear his name. And for when you don't have a Courthouse out. Kinda fun, although I wouldn't bother unless you need the Nines.

Throw Your Weight Around Cost 2 / Value Two / MoH Common

Deputy John Templeton: I think it's time to head on over to Charlie's and teach him that when you're his size, it ain't wise to be makin' cracks about a man's weight. That's muscle, not fat.

Hunter's Notes: If you need to stop a win, or just want to take Control of some stuff, TYWA ain't bad. Raise Nate Hunter's Influence from a two to a five! If you're boosting your Law Dogs' Bullet Ratings for shootouts (particularly with Hunter's Office and cheap weapons), then your Influence ratings are going to look better still.

A Price on his Head Cost 0 / Value Two / Rare

Tao Cheng ("T.C."): It is not money that drives my quest to bring the various Maze Rats to justice. The price that the Emperor has put on the heads of certain of their members is great indeed, and I will take such money. However, I shall donated it to the Orphanage rather than profit from the elimination of such men.

Hunter's Notes: If you need a little extra income (and my Dogs always do), this ain't bad. Watch out in a multi-player game though, as someone else might get to them first.

Aim for the Head Cost 0 / Value Ten / MoH Common

Corky Hendricks: A man's eye ain't much bigger than the pip on the Ace of Spades. I find that comforting to keep in mind when I'm hunkerin' down for a shot.

Hunter's Notes: Make sure you take out the Wanted 2+ Influence Dudes that you want to, rather than having your opponent throw some cannon fodder in the way of your bullets. It don't look like this overrides Lucky Ted, though.

Between the Shoulderblades Cost 0 / Value Seven / Pine Box Fixed

Charlie Flatbush: Why the nerve of him, trying to run out on me. I think not!

Hunter's Notes: If they're Wanted and they try to run away, Ace them anyway. Collect your Victory Point. Repeat as necessary. Any questions?

Hell's Fury Cost 0 / Value Three / Rare (also in Pinebox)

Hangin' Judge Gabriel: Reportssss of my death were greatly exaggerated...

Hunter's Notes: Ace Gabriel. Resurrect Gabriel with your second copy of him and Hells' Fury. Ace him as necessary to take out another Wanted dude. Pull and resurrect. Use Jail, Icehouse, and Courthouse as necessary to gain extra Victory Points. A pretty efficient way to win. Build your deck with high-value cards for the Pulls: a Ten (Gabriel's value) shouldn't be that hard. Alternately, put a spare Wendy Cheng or something in your deck and resurrect her as necessary.

Nowhere to Run Cost 0 / Value Six / Common

Nash Bilton: Sorry, punk, but you're not getting' out of here that easily.

Hunter's Notes: If you want to make sure they're not going anywhere, Nowhere to Run is the card for you. Get them into a firefight and keep them there.

Buzz
Red-Handed Cost 0 / Value King / MoH Common

Hector Casparo: I do believe that you would be cheating, Mr. Parker. We have laws against that kind of thing in Gomorra. Perhaps you'd like to talk to the Sheriff about it, though?

Hunter's Notes: Not too bad, since it makes all of your opponent's Dudes Wanted. Still, how effective this card is depends on whether more potent anti-Cheatin' cards like Jackelope Stampede and Sauce for the Gander have put the fear of Cheatin' into your opponents' hearts. Probably also of more use in a multi-player game, where your odds of running up against a Cheatin' hand during Lowball is a lot better.

Scalpin' Cost 0 / Value Eight / Rare (also in Pine Box)

Redbrook: Folks think that the custom of scalping began and ended with the Indians. I've seen many a white man just as willing to claim his opponent's...coup, though, if you know what I mean. No side can claim innocence in such atrocities, particularly when the power one gains is so great.

Hunter's Notes: For some real fun, use this when a Harrowed Gabriel claims a Dude. Regardless, you're going to be Acing Dudes, and you're probably going to be Acing high-Influence Dudes. Scalpin' fits in naturally with that pattern of attack.

Shootin' From The Hip Cost 0 / Value Eight / MoH Common

Nate Hunter: I wasn't always a good shootist, but time and experience in Gomorra has made me a great one. That, and the inspiration I've drawn from my predecessor's silver-handled revolver. I hope I've done J.P. justice by it.

Hunter's Notes: Get Hunter into a fight, give him something like the Double-Barreled Shotgun, use Crack Shot to make him a stud, and watch the sparks fly. Granted, your opponent gets to choose who he loses, but this still can prove useful for cleaning out the lesser types so they're not around to take the hit for the more powerful Dudes in your opponent's Posse. And the Law Dogs have plenty of Studs... The other trick here is if you have a stud with a Shotgun or a Double-Barreled Shotgun, you can essentially use those Weapons twice. Granted, the second time won't help you quite as much, since the Dude you're Acing has already contributed is Bullet Rating to the Shootout, but still...it's good for cleaning out the riff-raff. And you've already got your choice for the wimp you cleaned out with the first shotgun blast, so hopefully your opponent will have to choose from Dudes he's less willing to choose.

Two Hands, Two Guns Cost 0 / Value Ace / MoH Common

Tao Cheng ("T.C."): It is strange how few people assume that because I have an advantage against unarmed opponents, I prefer not to use weapons myself. It may not be in the traditions of my people, but I find that not only is using a gun effective, but my training gives me added skill in using two guns at the same time. But in this I was fortune: my teacher Woo himself realized that the coming technology would make such skills necessary.

Hunter's Notes: It's an Ace of Clubs, so you can use it for a Dead Man's Hand deck. And if you're going to go with Hunter's Office (and maybe even if you're not), you're going to have a lot of Weapons. Give Hunter a D-B Shotgun and a Pearl-Handled Revolved and watch the fur fly!

War Paint Cost 0 / Value King / Rare (also in Pine Box)

Nate Hunter: Corky's dead, Coleman's dead or missing, half my deputies are at the doctor's, Bilton's gone freelance, and MacPhearson bought the farm in his own church. Looks like someone's going to have to do things single-handed.

Hunter's Notes: I do so love comboing this on top of someone like Nate Hunter. Make the good old "normal" Nate a Stud using Crack Shot, give him a Double-Barreled Shotgun, equip him with a Bowie Knife, play War Paint on him as a Noon Action, and then set him up for an inescapable shootout (or use Between the Shoulderblades). What have we got? A Stud-10 with a Shotgun! You can do something similar with most anyone else, although it's not quite as powerful. And don't forget that War Paint is cumulative...

...Today, I Am Cost 0 / Value Six / MoH Common

Xiong "Wendy" Cheng: Who is this 'McSnerd' and why does he plague me so?!?

Hunter's Notes: Apparently the folks in charge recognized the dangers of Pistol Whip and Wendy's ability, and included this card. Since the Law Dogs got Wendy and favor Pistol Whipping due to the high number of Shootouts they engage in, they feel the bite here. Still, it's a "magic bullet" counter card. If your opponent is putting something in to his deck just to counter your strategy, and it doesn't have any other use, then that's one less card he's got to do his strategy.

I Want A Raise Cost 2 / Value Five / RoS Rare

Deputy John Templeton: Sorry, Hunt...I mean, Sheriff Hunter. But a man's got expenses to cover. You want me to kick butt for the law, then I'm going to need a bit more money in my pocket come Monday. Take it or leave it.

Hunter's Notes: As if the Law Dogs don't have enough problems with meeting expenses, now they've got greedy employees as well. This ain't a fun card for anybody to be hit with, but for the Law Dogs, particularly early in the game (who is Sheriff Hunter asking for a raise from, anyway??), it can cripple you for good.

My Fight's With You Cost 0 / Value Jack / RoS Common

Gordo Andrade: Two men enter, one man leaves. Also just as God intended it, eh?

Hunter's Notes: Tired of being able to call out Turtling dudes (say, via Clean Up The Town) and have them all gang up on you? Sick of all the Dudes you have to bring up to handle the turtling mob? Irritated that that Bounty Hunter gets blasted down before he can even get through your opponent's Outfit's door? Once you've made that 2+ Influence lousy-shooter Dude Wanted, just send Nate, or the experienced Jessie, or Nash, over to call them out and they won't have any of their friends to help them.

Quick Reload Cost 0 / Value Eight / RoS Common

Charlie Flatbush: Another drink? Don't mind if I do. Now, what was I saying? Oh yes. There was Sheriff Hunter, facing down two miscreants. Quick as a blink, he used his shotgun and gunned them down. Not that impressive, you say? Well, yes, except he was using a single-barreled shotgun. I swear, he reloaded so quick your eyes might hardly believe it. Let that be a lesson to those considering a violation of the laws of Gomorra.

Hunter's Notes: The first thing to keep in mind is that, despite the title, this card will work on any Goods, not just Weapons. So a Chainsaw, while not a Weapon, can be used to ace two of your opponent's Goods. Even Horses are Goods, so you can "quick reload" them as well. (Don't ask...) There aren't any action-providing Weapons in Reaping of Souls, but the single- and Double-Barreled Shotguns, quickly reloaded by Nate Hunter, can do some serious damage among your opponents. On the other hand, the Quick Reload won't help you with items that Ace themselves to perform an action (like, say, a Slumber Needle). If you're uinsg Lukas Owens, you can toss in a few Gadgets and something like a Flamethrower becomes equally cool (2 Gr for a Stud+4!).

Yellow Belly Cost 0 / Value King / Rare (also in Pine Box)

J.P. Coleman: A man's gotta know his limitations. But he's also got to know that word's going to get around if he acts on those limitations.

Hunter's Notes: Not a bad card. Good pull Value if you're going to use MacPherson or the newer guys with skills (Redbrook, Owens). Use in conjunction with Clean Up The Town to really put the whammy on them. Downright painful when you combine with the Hunter's Office ability. Guaranteed to annoy an opponent and put the hurt on turtlers, or anybody in general that ain't ready for a fight.

Framed Cost * / Value Seven / Rare (also in Pine Box)

Deputy John Templeton: Okay, yeah, maybe there's some truth to that guy swearing that he's innocent. But I still like the odds.

Hunter's Notes: So what's the problem? Doesn't require you to boot or anything - just pony up the Ghost Rock and make 'em Wanted. It's pretty unlikely they'll have a Law Dog under their control, and even if they do, the odds in general still favor you. It's certainly no worse than Confession or Wanted, and at least it gives you a chance (good luck Pulling to a Confession against that 4-Influence King-value Dude!).

Guilt by Association Cost 0 / Value Five / AtA Common

The Snitch: Hey, if a guy's going to hand around with Charlie, you've got to expect them to be painted with the same brush. Not that I've got anything against Charlie, mind you, but it sure is strange how he keeps ending up connected to all the criminal elements in town.

Hunter's Notes: Another way to make Dudes Wanted! Make the first one Wanted through Warrant or Confession or Framed and then use this to get a two'fer. Same Value as Warrant, interestingly enough, so removing a Warrant and adding one of these probably won't break up any Straight Flushes or Full Houses you've been building using those Five of Clubs.

Carlos Taylor
Flight of Angels Cost 0 / Value King / EFE Common

The Snitch: I swear it, Sheriff! A horde of angels ascending up into the air! And Charlie Landers and Elijah were leading the pack, honest to God! No, I haven't been drinking - why do you ask?

Hunter's Notes: King value pairs up nicely with Red-Handed. Nasty, nasty effect, since it pretty much guarantees your opponent is going to have at least one Wanted dude out most of the time. And that's when your Hunter's Office deck moves in for the kill. Now, if we could just figure out if it is cumulative or not.
