AQUAFARMS OF LAND HO!

Little did we know...when we surveyed this place from tarn-back, that at a long distant time past, another structure existed on this spot. During construction a smooth stone deck was un-earthed. It is now the main deck of the lighthouse. You can feel the age of the walls around you. The stone is more polished than the upper stories.

A lantern sitting near the portal is lit and held aloft. Its light makes the narrow stairway leading downward visible. There is a small room at the bottom of the stairs. Four tunnels lead out of the room at the carnial points. The trades men that were here for the discovery are no longer on Gor. They have all been returned to Earth.

The steps lead to the South tunnel, a soft glow lighting the whole passageway like the light globes of the Caste of Builders. A cool greenish-white light emits its rays illuminating the passageway. The passageway leads on, deeper into the earth and farther south where it finally ends. A metal double door is blocking further passage. It is smooth and featureless - no knobs, no hinges, and barly a hairline crack seperating it from the stone walls. There is no key hole. Yet, the metal doors swing inward silently, and closes just as silently behind you as you enter.

The lights get day-light bright as the passage opens into a large warehouse filled with all sorts of things. And these things are NOT Gorean! Perhaps this was a Preist-King outpost - pre-Sardar.

Walking through a huge door on wheels, you see a vessel lying in a cradle, much like somthing Jules Verne wrote of. And an equally large door secured aft of the vessel....perhaps Thassa waits on the other side????

The stairs you take begin to climb upward in a tight steep spiral coming to stop several "decks" later and much higher up. The landing is in front of a huge window, round and metal bound..the glass as thick as the length of the Captain's quiva. Through the glass, a ghostly apparition swims by, on a constant quest for substanance. It is the huge 9-gilled salt shark in search of lelt. It makes you feel very small seeing the monster swim off into the darkness of Thassa. A school of tiny gint, looking like drops of sparkling silver flashes, swim in front of your eyes, their silvery flashes a great contrast against the dark.

The Captain points to a model of the area that is sitting on a table by the window to Thassa. He points to the passage in the reef....near the black rocks just out from the lighthouse. The passage is open from Thassa to the sheltered cove!! This beast could swim right into the sheltered cove!!! He then reaches to the model and throws a small lever. A block of stone neatly fills the passage. The cove is safe and protected against the giant predators of Thassa.

Looking back through the glass again, the shadows begin to take form as neatly tended fields become apparent. It is an aquafarm!! A strange vessel is visible and is used as a harvesting tractor. In harmony with the life of Thassa, beds of kelp and Sorps are tended and harvested supplying an never ending source of food for the land in addition to the farms, gardens and orchards. Suddenly, the rooms in the warehouse make sense.....harvesting stations, packing room, cold storage, tagging stations... There is an enormous supply of food here. When it has been held a certain amount of time, the oldest is recycled back to Thassa. Other rooms serve as hatcheries, all intact and working. The Land's resources are huge and provides all with substanance.

There are other sections to this labrynth of tunnels....their mysteries are held and know by the Captain alone. Perhaps in time, they, too, will be shown to all and the wonders they contain will no longer be a mystery. Then again.....perhaps not.
