THE WHEEL OF TIME Robert Jordan
The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades into myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.
The struggle between good and evil, between the Light and the Dark, continues down through the ages, the essences of the champions for each resurfacing constantly. In the present Age, the Pattern of time and events has woven itself tightly around one young man, Rand al'Thor of Two Rivers. Along with his two friends, Perrin Aybara and Mat (Matrim) Cauthon, Rand gets drawn into the events outside the only world he's ever known and hurled head first into the destiny which awaits him.
Discovering within himself the ability to channel Saidin, the tainted male half of the One Power, Rand is pulled by both the forces for the Light and Dark. The Aes Sedai, age old servants of the Light since time began, are now since the Breaking, female channelers of Saidar devoted to protecting the land from the madness which ensues from the Dark One's taint on Saidin. No man can long channel without eventually going mad and destroying those around him.
The Dark One, imprisoned before the Breaking by a force of Aes Sedai from the Age of Legends is now slowly breaking free from his prison. His minions pursue Rand, each one for his or her own purposes. Their powers are strong and they hunt him through his waking and dreaming moments, harrying him constantly as he searches for his own answers and his own path. The fate of the world rests on this young man, the Dragon Reborn, the champion for the Light.

* For those of you who noticed the slight irregularity on the above picture of the cover for A Path of Daggers, TOR has since repaired the flaw and the Aes Sedai symbol on the banner will be correctly represented. I rather like having the older, flawed version. A net collector's edition...: )
