WARDER BIOGRAPHY

Gangorn Atramion, Gaidin, Master of Arms at the Portal Tower

Warder to Chiyath Sedai, Amyrlin Seat of the Portal Tower

Gangorn Atramion was the last living son of the house Atramion. The house Atramion had held the throne for 6 generations, before he had been forced to flee. His father had taken a wound in a battle years ago. His father, Periam Atramion, had been command of the troops sent to relieve a siege upon a neighboring ally. When the siege was broken, the desperate commanders of the routed army sent wave after wave of men at his father’s command during the night. They were repelled, but a few slipped through the lines. One of them had recognized his father’s standard, a silver wolf. The man had stabbed Periam through the ribs and was about to deliver the killing stroke when he was shot by an archer. His father had returned a weakened and fragile man. Gangorn’s mother, then pregnant with him, had taken on the duties of running the kingdom after his grandfather had died. When Gangorn was ten years of age, his mother had died and left his father with the day to day running of the kingdom. Gangorn was being brought up to rule and to lead, training with the best Master of Arms in the land, Helakar Alrion and being taught by the finest tutors.

When he was 13, his father sent him to his old friend King Lsiner. Lsiner sent him to a border fort in the mountains, to teach him the harder side of life. Two years of his life went by in the fort. When he returned home at 15, he discovered his father had been forced into marriage by the regency council. The marriage, arranged for the state, held little or no affection when Gangorn returned home. He was welcomed home coldly, his father bedridden by the wound’s legacy. His step mother had all but stated she was not happy he had returned for he had stayed away her oldest son would have been in line for the throne. Gangorn was enraged at her implications and immediately went to the regency council to have them name him heir. The counsel voted against his request, stating that the king had not named him heir and they would not supersede the king’s prerogative. Periam Atramion had long ago lost most of his sanity and was now unfit to give any orders as king. Helakar, Gangorn’s friend and teacher warned him that the Queen, his step mother had been securing the council’s favor for her son to inherit the kingdom. Gangorn began to investigate the situation, and was rewarded by confirmation of what Helakar had told him. After a year and a half of trying to gather the people back to the House Atramion, Gangorn had no choice but to give up. One night an mysterious figure had attacked him and sliced his arm, leaving a scar and a message.... To leave, or to die, no matter how many tries it would take. Without telling Helakar, or his father his reasons, he announced he would be leaving. Somehow, Helakar had gotten his father in a sane moment and learned the location of his grandfather’s sword. Gangorn left his homeland, leaving his name and his land behind.

Gangorn travelled south into the kingdom of King Lsiner and after months of staying hidden, he finally dared to reveal himself to the king. The king, greatly angered by his step-mother’s actions, offered the services of his army and his treasury to Gangorn. In exchange, the mines in the mountains buffering the two countries would be given into Lsiner’s control. Gangorn refused the offer, knowing that his kingdom had been lost and rather than punishing the common people with a vain war, he decided to live in exile. King Lsiner accepted him into his service, knowing his proficiency in weapons gave him the rank of lieutenant. Gangorn trained troops and guards in Lsiner’s service for 3 years. Slowly King Lsiner brought Gangorn into his daily running of the kingdom and within a year he had become his military advisor. His kingdom was being invaded by 2 neighboring countries, Gangorn’s step-brother having arranged the alliance for the invasion. In the four years following, Gangorn became a general and was becoming known for his ability to get out of bad situations. After that last year, when King Lsiner’s armies had secured their borders, Gangorn and the other generals lead counter invasions into the hearts of the two countries, causing them to sue for peace, and allowing himGangorn to return to court. Shortly after, Gangorn received a letter from the Amyrlin Seat of the Portal Tower, Chiyath Sedai. His old friend and trainer Helakar had been wounded and was asking for Gangorn to come to his side.

Gangorn arrived at the tower and was offered Helekar’s former position, Master of Arms, by the Amyrlin Seat, Chiyath Sedai. He had always found Aes Sedai to be interesting in King’s Lsiner’s court, and Chiyath had grabbed his attention the first day when she had found him wandering in the woods. He hadn’t known she was the Amyrlin, or even Aes Sedai, but something had drawn him to her and when he was asked he couldn’t refuse the position. To refuse meant he would leave, and he couldn’t fight the pull. Gangorn and Chiya quickly became friends and in a short while they had bonded, he becoming her Warder. When Chiya had been kidnapped, Gangorn had felt a dread in his soul, not only for failing to protect his Aes Sedai, an honor which Gangorn had cherished, but something else, something deeper, love.
