This second glimpse into the life of a stuffed-penguin-loving-tough-as-nails-vampire-hunter is entertaining but definitely the weakest book in the series. I recommend that you read GUILTY PLEASURES or one of the other books in the series before this one and wait to come back to it when you are in the throes of Anita withdrawl. However, that is not to say this second outing is horrible, it is actually quite entertaining. Not many vampires in this one however Jean-Claude is only in a few chapters in the middle. This novel focuses on a wealthy businessman, Harold Gaynor, who wants Anita to raise a zombie. Simple enough after all that is Anita's job but this zombie is too old to be raised without a human sacrifice and that is a no-no. However, Harold is morally challenged so he and thugs bug Anita for most of the book. There is also a voodoo priestess named Dominga Salvador who takes joy in sending zombies to Anita's apartment to scare her, which ends up being a huge problem for the cleaning lady. Dominga also isn't very squeamish when it comes to human sacrifices which really makes Anita uneasy. On top of that Anita is helping out with a police investigation searching for a rogue animator who is using zombies as killing machines. The crime scenes in this book are not for the weak of heart, if gore bothers you then be warned that this is the bloodiest as well as goriest book in the series. If that is enough to scare you into not picking this book up right away don't worry because most of the information acquired in this reading is not essential to the plots in any of the other books. If there was one book you could remove from the series and still keep the ongoing plots of the other books in tact it is this one because this is more of a detective novel than any of her others thus far.
