Anita's 9th adventure put her on a plane to New Mexico (actually Edward called in his favor from The Killing Dance). Anita caught a glimpse of Edward's personal life, his fiancee and her children. She got to meet two of Edward's other "buddies." One seems likely to show up in a future book since, he developed a crush on Anita (he's a serial killer and she fits his MO). Anita helped the police stop crimes perpetrated by creepy crawler, and also caught the lead detective's eye (Ramirez). While her other two men were back in St. Louis missing her, with Jean-Claude showing up in one dream. I definitely missed the main supporting characters, but that was also what made is such a different and interesting book. Anita also catches the eye of the local vampire master, Obsidian Butterfly. Obsidian is an Aztec vampire who allows Anita into her territory to take care of the disturbance (the police case creepy crawlie), so she does not have to put herself at rish. Obsidian also is fascinated by Anita (all the vampires seem to be since Anita has this unique ability to kill everyting she comes across) and is the first vampire related representative she has let into her lands and not killed. The Council is even afraid to deal with Obsidian which gives you an idea of how bad she can be. However, our heroine pulls through, with quite a few bruises, and a notion to never, ever get into a position where she will ever owe Edward a favor again. All and all, good fun with lots of violence and graphic detail with that touch of humor, just the way we like our Anita.
