In this outing our stressed-out hero is going to Branson, Missouri. Anita is there to raise a graveyard full of two-hundred years old zombies to end a dispute over who owns the land, a fairy or a ruthless businessman. While, there Anita helps out the local authorities with the murder of three teenagers and that search leads her surprisingly to the fairy's bar and grill Bloody Bones. Which makes Anita suspect among other things that he has something to hide.
Then there is a dead girl drained of blood and left in her bed. The family wants the girl staked before she can rise as a vampire. Anita is hesitant because the last time a hurt family asked her to stake a loved one they changed their minds the next morning after the deed was done. Anita decides they should wait twenty-four hours to think it over and to just guard the house. However, when an expedition into the forest to find the vampires that did it goes terribly wrong Anita has to call in a favor.
Enter Jean-Claude via his private jet to come and help Anita. He could have been Master of Branson as well as St. Louis but he turned it down because of the distance between each. He was thinking practically but most of the vamps think it is a sign of weakness and that makes it all the more harder for him to get to Branson without breaking any of the vamp protocol. When he does get there with Jason in tow they have to tip-toe around the police because all the vampires have to be nice and friendly since a new law is floating around the Senate. Brewster's Law to be exact which came about because a senator's daughter was attacked by the vampire she was on a date with. If the law gets passed then vampires become illegal again which means open season for vampire slayers.
For those readers who are into the vampire aspect of Hamilton's world you are in for a treat. However, if you like the lycathropes more sorry they are not in this much and as for you Richard fans he is only in one chapter at the beginning. But, that shouldn't keep you from wanting to read this book the action is bloody and fast-paced, the magic is exciting, and we learn some more about Jean-Claude that my surprise you. Thumbs way UP!
