Buffy and Parker have a deep discussion on the way home about life and seizing the day. Parker asks Buffy to a party and she happily accepts. Before she can get a good night kiss Oz and Willow run up to tell her about Harmony. Buffy relunctantly says good-bye to Parker to do her slayer duties.
We see a bunch of people underground digging, one of them happens to be Spike. He's back and he is the boyfriend Harmony was yelling/bragging about. However, it becomes obvious that this isn't the great relationship Spike has with Dru, Harmony is just a diversion.
Xander is busy working with Giles when Onya drops in for a visit. Onya wants to date Xander but he isn't too thrilled about the idea and puts her off.
That night, Buffy and Parker are at the party and they run into Harmony and Spike. Spike makes a few cracks about Parker to Buffy and takes off with Harmony trying to follow. Outside the frat house Buffy and Spike fight in the dark. Harmony comes to assist Spike but she ends up giving away the reason of why they're in town. Spike is searching for the Gem of Arraya. Buffy calls Giles to start researching it and then goes back to the party.
The next scene brings us to Harmony and Spike's bedroom. Harmony antagonizes Spike until he gives her attention. They end up having sex. Buffy ends up spending the night in Parker's room. And, Onya pays a visit to Xander's basement apartment in his parent's home. She feels if they have sex she'll get over him. Come on, you are over 10,000 years old and specialize in scorned women, and you think a guy will like you better just because you have sex with him?! Onya was definitely sleeping on the job there. The morning after for most of the couples isn't too great. Spike claims to love syphillis more than Harmony and Xander seems just as happy to show Onya the door. Buffy manages a better experience than last time. She wakes to find Parker gone, but he comes back in a few minutes (he went to get breakfast for them). Buffy is thrilled and happy when he says he'll call her.
Buffy gets back to her room and finds Willow and Giles. Buffy tries to ignore the question of where she's been all night and segways into the Spike business. Apparently, the gem Spike wants is supposed to make vampires invincible, even to sunlight. Buffy plots to look for Harmony and by following her find Spike. Giles and the rest of the gang are going to try to locate the exact place where the gem is buried.
Buffy meets failure in trying to find Harmony. She is also upset when Parker doesn't call over the next few days.
Meanwhile, Spike ordered Harmony to stay underground because he knew what Buffy's strategy would be. He finds the crypt where the gem is. He takes the necklace off the corpse but it doesn't work. Harmony has followed him into the crypt and is trying on other various jewels. He finally gets really pissed off by a comment she makes and stake her. However, she doesn't turn to dust, her wound heals. Spike was wrong to thing the gem was on a necklace, its on a ring, the ring Harmony has put on. Harmony gives the ring to Spike and he splits.
Onya tries to talk to Xander about having a relationship but he blows her off. He goes to Giles' place where Oz and Willow are to help research. They turn the tv on, while ridiculing Giles for having one, and see a news story about a part of the Sunnydale Highway that collapsed. They figure out where that is and go looking for Spike. They find Harmony still down there, moping. She gives them what little information she has mainly that Spike is going to kill Buffy.
Buffy finally runs into Parker who is using a line he used on Buffy with some other girl. She slowly comes to the conclusion he was using her. His excuse was that they were just having "fun", and why hadn't she realized that? Buffy is hurt and who is there to witness her heartbreak? Why, Spike of course who happens to be standing there in sunlight. He gets a lot of joy out of making cheap shots about Buffy's recent dumping and her not being worth a second "go". Xander rushes over to help her but he just gets thrown by Spike. Buffy gets the ring off Spike however, since there is a sewer entrance right there Spike jumps in without bursting into flames.
Back at Giles' house, Buffy tells the group she wants to give the ring to Angel. Oz is entrusted with it because he's going to LA with the band for a gig. At the end of the episode Buffy is walking around in a stupor because of Parker. She's not the only one, Harmony and Onya are also moping.
