13. "Zeppo"

At the end of a fight scene we see Faith and Buffy managed to kill the monster. Giles helped by planning strategy and fighting while Willow used a spell to help them sneak up on the big bad blue creatures they were facing. Xander did nothing except get in the way. This leads to everyone wanting Xander to stay out of the line of fire so he won't get hurt. This hurts Xander's feelings because he doesn't want to be left out of all the fun.

Cordelia belittles him the next day by being right on target. He doesn't have a "thing". Willow is a witch, Oz is a werewolf, Buffy is a Slayer but Xander isn't anything so that bums him out. Xander becomes determined to get a "thing". The thing he ends up getting is a car. Xander is able to rent a vintage convertible from his uncle which gets him the attention of a cute blonde. Xander runs a quick errand for the Scooby gang, donut pick-up, and then goes to the Bronze with the blonde since he isn't invited to help with the latest slaying activities. It soons becomes clear the blonde just likes him for the car.

As Xander and the blonde are leaving the Bronze Xander clips the car in front of him. The person in the car is Jack O'Toole a psycho from school that Xander had pissed off earlier by not being able to catch a ball that hit Jack. Jack pulls a knife on Xander and they start to fight when a cop shows up. Xander lies and says that he and Jack weren't going to hurt each other. Jack thinks it is real cool that Xander didn't rat on him, so he invites Xander to have some fun with him. They take Xander's car since Jack was just trying to steal that other car that Xander hit anyway.

They end up in a graveyard where Jack raises a friend of his, Bob, from the dead. The blonde runs off screaming. Jack, Xander, and Bob go to other graveyards and raise all of the people in their "gang". Xander is very uneasy about all these ghouls walking around when he sees Giles one of the graveyards he almost tells him. However, Giles brings up the fact that they don't want Xander to get hurt so Xander ends up staying with Jack and his gang.

Jack and the ghouls rob a store to get goodies to "bake a cake". Xander tries to bolt, that's when Jack offers to make Xander part of their gang. However, the initiation to get into the gang is a little to tough for Xander, you have to die to get in. That's when Jack explains his grandfather raised him from the dead ten minutes after a shoot out, you can't even tells he's dead because he didn't start to rot yet. Xander manages to make a break for the car.

While, Xander is driving he sees Faith fighting another ugly blue monster. He helps her get away and they drive to the hotel she's been staying at. Faith seduces Xander and they end up having sex. Afterwards, Faith kicks Xander out. Back to driving around Xander goes back to the store his friends were robbing and figures out that they are making a bomb with the materials that are missing from the store. He tries to got tell Buffy and Angel but they are having a private discussion (done very overdramatically for satire purposes) and he leaves feeling awkward.

That's when he accidentally drives by Jack and the gang. He manages to get one ghoul to tell him where they put the bomb....the school. Xander drives there with Jack's gang hot on his tail. Xander manages to take out one member with a mailbox and another with a vending machine. A group of ugly green monsters eat a third gang member, which leaves Jack for Xander.

Now, while all that is going on Buffy, Angel, Faith, Willow, and Giles are fighting a big multi-headed monster that came from under the library's floor. This is an episode where the sub-plot is actually the main plot and we only get to see bits and pieces of what is usually the main plot of an episode. The bits and pieces we get to see with Buffy and the others are very melodramatic and meant to be funny.

Xander has a showdown with Jack in the boiler room. Jack finally backs down and turns the bomb off. Xander leaves and Jack goes through another exit, however that door lead to where Willow put Oz the werewolf who was moved out of the library cage for his own safety. Oz eats Jack and is "strangely full" the next day. Meanwhile, Xander realizes that he is content to be boring and average because in Sunnydale those are two good things.
