"ROBERT JORDAN'S BEST SELLING WHEEL OF TIME SERIES ENTERS THE FANTASY
COLLECTIBLE CARD GAME ARENA
(Tempe, Arizona) Wheel of Time, Robert Jordan's epic fantasy literature series, is at last
being adapted to a collectible card game with a scope as sweeping as the books themselves.
Precedence Entertainment, producers of the internationally popular Babylon 5 Collectible
Card Game, today announced their agreement with Robert Jordan to adapt his best selling
series into a
major fantasy CCG.
Wheel of Time, a series of eight novels so far, has steadily climbed to the pinnacle of
the publishing world. The most recent release in the series, "The Path of
Daggers" achieved the book trade's highest level of recognition as a New York Times
#1 Best Seller. An estimated 8 million books in the series have been sold to date. Later
this year, a high profile Wheel of Time computer game will debut from GT Interactive.
This magical series is set in a feudal world in which Rand Al Thor, the Dragon Reborn,
rises in a quest to unite nations and overcome the reawakening forces of The Dark One.
Rand's journey is aided by the Aes Sedai, a powerful sisterhood psychically gifted with
the "One Power". His opposition includes The Forsaken, resurrected warriors who
wield titanic might. The collectible card game design is based on Jordan's timeless themes
of the Light, the Dark, and the Dragon, the powers omnipresent in the Wheel of Time.
Players will represent opposing forces of Light and Darkness battling for control of
"The Pattern", an eternal force akin to Fate or Destiny.
The Wheel of Time CCG will launch in October, with over 300 cards, each depicting a
different character, location, event or other aspect of Jordan's epic vision. A cadre of
world class fantasy artists have agreed to contribute painted art for the cards, including
Darryl Sweet, who painted the covers of all of the Wheel of Time novels.
Starter Sets will contain a 50 card deck plus an eight card booster pack for $9.99.
Booster packs will contain eight cards including five common, two uncommon, and one rare
card, and will retail for $1.99. Precedence will also release two-player starter sets,
attractively packaged to look like a hollowed out book, with two starter decks, and two
booster packs for a suggested retail price of $19.99.
"Wheel of Time will bridge the gap between fantasy literature and fantasy gaming,
introducing many new fans to the hobby who have never enjoyed CCG's before," said
Precedence CEO Paul W. Brown III. "At the same time, Wheel of Time will be the most
serious new offering avid fantasy gamers have seen in a long time. With this quality of
art, story, and game play, we expect gamer to flock to it, even if they haven't read the
book series yet."
Precedence Entertainment produces the Babylon 5 Collectible Card Game, the Fortune Teller
Game, and publishes books in the IMMORTAL series.
