Fabulous Florence
Florence is a city of art, and when you are there, there are a few places that are definitely worthwhile stops.

If art is your reason for visiting Florence, there are a couple of major museums to check out. The first is the Accademia, home Michelangelo's famous "David" Statue. (This is the real one. There are also copies outside the Uffizi Gallery and one in a square overlooking Florence.) The other major gallery is the Uffizi, home to many great works of art, including Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raphael, and DaVinci, among many others.
The Basilica of Santa Croce is one of the most beautiful in all of Europe, a sentiment I share with Michelangelo himself, as he decided that he wanted to be laid to rest there(funeral monument pictured at right). As did Galileo, Machiavelli, and Dante. You might also remember this church from the movie "A Room With A View."
A short walk away from Santa Croce is the much larger Duomo Complex. (Consisting of the Cathedral, the Bapistry and the Bell Tower.) The Duomo contains many works of art by renowned masters including Michelangelo and Donatello.
Also, don't miss the Ponte Vecchio(pictured in the cityscape above), the oldest bridge in Florence. It is a covered bridge lined with vendors on either side. If you're shopping for leather, Florence is the place to be!
All of the pictures on this page were all taken and/or owned by me. If you'd like to use any of them, please e-mail me and ask. I'm a pretty nice person and I'll more than likely let you use them!
