Not being a full blooded Islander, Morganna was an object of fascination in her early years. Her eyes were not the emerald green so often associated with the Navon family; instead, they were a crystal blue rimmed with sapphire. The child's hair was so black that it shone blue in the bright Ahvlyn sun which turned her skin a golden hue instead of the burning red most Islanders acquired from long days outdoors.
Five years after her birth, minions of the Flame attempted to steal the child. The attempt was partially foiled by the intervention of a young Arukian mage. Though the mage was able to rescue the heir, her younger sister, Krystan, barely six months old, was snatched from her cradle by the invading graith. Hours later, as the dawn rose above the horizon, Krystan's father, High General Gaand of the Queen's Army, assembled a group to rescue the child. An hour later, Lucas Steelheart appeared in Kylan's private study. Promising to protect the child, Lucas returned to his Arukian manor home with his daughter.
Two weeks later Lucas' manor home was attacked as local villagers discovered his vampiric nature. Through a botched spell, the manor home was removed from time. Morganna spent thirteen years in her father's home as he struggled to reverse the spell. When the spell was finally broken, the manor home was deposited back into time and was destroyed by the attacking villagers. The now eighteen-year-old Morganna, however, was deposited back at Castle Ahvlyn where her mother waited anxiously for the return of her five-year-old daugther.
The rescue of Princess Krystan brought the story of Brigit's Crossing into doubt; a Navon heir was discovered, yet there was no Navon female that could have borne her. Researching the depths of Castle Ahvlyn's libraries, Kylan discovered that though Queen Brigit crossed the Eron Ocean, bringing her people to Ahvlyn, that queen was the daughter of the Brigit who began the civil war. The elder Brigit remained behind to continue the fight against the Flame.
Kylan organized a team to make the treacherous journey back to Eron and search for the remnants of Brigit's army, if indeed, any remained. The people of Ahvlyn would not let thier brethren fight the Flame alone. Morganna insisted on joining the team in the Search for Castle Hope.
