Moonlight Plains

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do Nixphe have genders?
A: The correct answer is "yes and no." They sort of do, but it's all subject to change. They don't get offended if you decide any particular one is a "he" or a "she," but "it" is probably more correct.

Q: Do the Nixphe have any naming rules?
A: If you name it a swear word, I shall probably take it away and ban you from further adoptions. Other than that, pretty much anything goes.

Q: How to you go about determining who wins a Turn in a Round?
A: First I assign a number to each "New baby" entry in the Nixphe round. I get out my nifty dice that have numbers 0-9. I roll once to determine what number will be in the 10's place, 0, 1, or 2. (Usually there are 20-something entries, so this works just fine.) Then I roll for the 1's place, which can be any number from 0 to 9. Then I go look up who was assigned the number rolled, and that's who wins. It's as random as I can make it. If you are despairing of every receiving a new baby, just remember: there is a 4 Nixphe limit, so the odds should get better with time.

Q: Hey, what's this? On my Nixphe's first morph, it totally changed shape, but on this morph it didn't seem to change at all. What's up?
A: It appears that you've made the common mistake of confusing morphing with growing up. After a Nixphe's first morph, it will automatically become an adult on the next Round. A morph, however, is mearly a change in symbols. Sometimes the change in symbols results in other changes (such as in color) but sometimes it doesn't.

Q: What is the difference between a new baby and a Set baby?
A: A new baby will be uniquely drawn by myself just for you. No one else will ever recieve that particular graphic (or any form of it). A Set baby is one of four pre-drawn Nixphe. A set baby won't be unique to you, if you look around, you'll find your Nixphe has "twins" out there.

Q: Hey, why is my Nixphe suddenly black/white/green/etc.?
A: When you or anyone else requests a morph, your Nixphe might change houses. If it changes houses, it will also change color. For a full list of houses and colors, go here. Remeber, you aren't the only one who can request a morph for your nixphe. Someone else may, and if you're not watchful, you might totally miss it!

Q: So how do you pronounce the name 'Nixphe'?
A: NIX fee.

Q: How many times can a Nixphe morph?
A: I haven't set any limit beyond the system of Rounds: more-or-less it's once per Round.

Q: If I trade my Nixphe into the Waiting Pool, am I guarenteed a new baby?
A: If you request a trade into the Pool, you may also request a different baby from the Waiting Pool, a Set baby, or a New Baby. If you are chosen to win a Turn, all legal requested actions will be carried out. So, if you get the trade, you also get the new baby.

Q: Why isn't my Nixphe Flaming?
A: First make sure you are requesting morphs for your Nixphe. That's the ultimate trigger that will make a Nixphe flame. You should, however, consider your Nixphe's environment: A happy Nixphe is much more likely to Flame. Recent studies indicate that one of the biggest detriments to Flaming is loneliness. Nixphe have an innate need to be with their own kind. Herds consisting of one or two individuals will often suffer from loneliness. Four individuals seems to be the ideal number of Nixphe to place in a herd (on the same page) together.
