This novel has many themes and morals in it. This really hits home when you realize how close we are to this. There are several issues in the novel that I'd like to bring to notice. The first is that there is alot of segragation in this novel. People are divided into "savage" and "civilized". Then the "civilized people are broken down further. The fact that there are different castes is one thing. The Epsilons are the druges and the Alphas are the intellectuals. The higher castes don't care for the lower castes and the lower castes hardly have the intelligence to care about the higher castes. That brings about my second point. These people have no chance to live their lives the way they want to. They are bred specifically to a certain job and are conditioned towards that job. They pretty much have no free will and are controlled by soma. That is the thrid issue, how is the society reflected if it has to control it's people with a drug?????? This definately doesn't speak well for society. I mean what would happen if they ran out or couldn't make any more soma?? You'd have utter chaos!!! This society has been bred dependant on soma and when you suddenly take it away.... POOF!!!! No more calm, collected society. :S Back to the main page
