Background:
 Rheinhart comes from  a simple Austrian family. His was very good  in school, especially in maths, biology and science. When Rheinhart was 14 his brother died due to Talikan Syndrome. Rheinhart then decided he would become a doctor to prevent other people from having the pain he felt when he lost his brother. He went to the University of Salzburg to study medicine.
After 6 years he got his degree and went on to working for the Grüssendorf Research Centre in Frankfurt. When he realized they weren't making any progress he left.
When the Dominion War broke out he was drafted. Because he is a doctor, he instantly obtained the rank of ensign. He was
promoted to the rank of lieutenant (jg) when he and two collegues treated three starshipcrews, two of them filled with refugees, with a minimum in casualties. When the first doctor of the U.S.S. DeRuyter died in a transporter accident, Rheinhart was assigned to the ship. He was promoted to lieutenant when the captain thought he deserved it.
He is a very calm, gentle man, a pacifist by heart. He never interferes with the captains decisions, except when he believes there would be a more peacefull alternative to the decision taken by captain Castle. Rheinhart is a popular figure among the crew and is praised for his subtle humour.
