On Friday the 11th of June all Trekkies and Trekkers in the the world
were shocked to hear mr DeForest Jackson Kelley had passed away. The officials
at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Hospital in Hollywood said he
died of a long illness.
DeForest Kelley was born on Januari 20 1920 in Atlanta, Georgia (USA).
Ironicly he wanted to become a doctor, something he would only be onscreen.
Unfortunately his family didn't have the funds to let him study medicine
and he rolled into acting.
In 1966 Gene Roddenberry thought of him for his new series called 'Star
Trek'. He always liked DeForest Kelley from the westerns he did. Roddenberry
felt Kelley could do so well as a good-guy, although he only played bad-guys
before.. Unfortunately Paramount did not agree and the role was given to
someone else. But after two episodes filmed ("The Cage" and "Where No Man
Has Gone Before") Kelley got the role that would make him famous: Dr. Leonard
"Bones" McCoy of the U.S.S. Enterprise. With famous satings as "He's dead
Jim" and various improvisations on "I'm a doctor, not an engineer", no
Star Trek lover could ever forget about this great man who was not only
a good actor, but also a decent, kind man. His collegue and friend Leonard
Nimoy said about him: "He represented humanity, and it fitted him well
He was a decent, loving, caring partner and will be deeply missed."
On Friday 11th, 1999 DeForest Kelley, aged 79, joined Gene Roddenberry
among the stars. He will be greatly missed.
For those who wish to send a card or letter to mrs. Kelley, who is also in the hospital for a broken leg, please send them to:
