BADLANDS, STARDATE 48975.5 Mission: capture of the Maquis vessel "Blackbeard". Successfull: Yes Cmdr. Richards: "Instead of just one, we encountered 4 Maquis ships, all mean lookin'. But luckily, cpt. Castle had just read some stuff about the Red Baron and remembered some his tactics alongside some other from that era. What we did was something they used to call "hit and run". The Maquis were all coming from the same, up front. Not to smart! We headed for their lead ship, fired 4 torpedoes followed by some phaser fire and took evasive maneuvers. Then we went for the next ship, doing the same! At that time the Maquis paniced or something, because they were all heading our way! But we made a loop leaving the Maquis almost bumping into eachother! We were then behind two of them and fired two rounds at one of them, wiping out their aftshields and warpengine. The others couldn't do much, because they didn't have enough room to maneuver. One of them broke loose and fired at us, but not much harm done, we fired back, they took evasive maneuvers, we fired at the other and for same strange reason it blew up! Two lousy torpedoes and it went! We couldn't believe it, but we had to go on. So the one that took evasive maneuvers came back at us from the rear and the other one was up front. The one in front of us fired phasers but we 'jumped' and he hit his friend behind us (what a bunch of amateurs!). We cam about and fired three rounds at 'sharp-shooter', whiping out their aft shields (they must not have been in good condition from the beginning on). They obviously compensated for that, but the shields were still at only 15%. Two more rounds took care of that, they ran. The last one tried to run too, but that was the Blackbeard (what a name!). The captain ordered five rounds to be fired and a "fistfull of phaser", he always has these really nice expressions, it may seem like much, but the captain was really fed up with all this stuff by now. It left the Maquis crippled, fried, turned over and buttered! All the shields were gone plus the engine and weapons were at low energy. We promptly transported a boarding party eh... aboard and ten minutes later the jod was done. We only had ten wounded , of which one because he tripped over another wounded and broke his arm, two sustained first degree burns when a conduit exploded, four got shot on board the Maquis ship ( what a loony bin!) and had sustained minimal dammage, one hit her head when we were hit, one fell off the ladder in Engeneering and one got himself buried underneath some barrels in one of the cargo bays (don't know what he was doing there...). Not bad 'ey?"
CHAL, STARDATE 50352.4 Mission: aid a ship in distress. Successfull: Yes
Captain Castle: "We were headed to Betazed when we picked up a distress signal from the U.S.S. Monarch. They reported to be under heavy fire from the Jem 'Hadar. We hit warp 9 and set course to Chal (well, other way around maybe). There we found the Defiant-class vessal already badly hit. We scanned four Jem 'Hadar fighters and one cruiser. We opened fire at the two first fighters we spotted. Right after we arrived the U.S.S. Pathfinder arrived, packing the Sovereign-class heat we needed. The Pathfinder blew one of the fighters away and went for the cruiser, we went for two of the fighters while the Monarch did the last on his own. We sustained some heavy damage, but we totally wrecked them! Then we went for the cruiser to help my buddy Carswell. Captain Reiner of the Monarch insisted he joined us, saying that he was the one that started the party! Well, we brought them to their knees! Carswell wanted to destroy it, but I said it would be better if we captured them, another Vorta for the collection is always nice! Reiner reminded us that Vortas are supposed to commit suicide when they're captured, so our docs did a little strip search and found a suicide capsule which we conviniently removed. The Monarch brought the prisoner to HQ, the Pathfinder went where ever and we resumed course to Betazed to pick up the ambassador."
UFP- ROMULAN NEUTRAL ZONE, STARDATE 50565.1 Mission: weapons testing. Successfull: Yes.
Lt-Cmrd. Esben: "Starfleet had organized a consortium (AKA CFD: Consortium for Federation Defense ) for preventative measures against any further enemy attack after the Dominion invasions. The Dr. Evan Rodstrell (3 P.H.Ds in astrophysics, warp mechanics, and theoritical engineering) had created a nano-mechanical matter destablizer. Essentially, this machine is able to vibrate back and forth faster than light with the use of a tiny warp engine that is activated when the ship it is attached to goes into warp. When the tiny machine is activated, it destablelizes the duranium (or any other alloy hulls) and create hull breaches that range from 1 meter to 30 meters wide, depending on the constitution of the ship. The Consortium had decided on a remote area approximently 20 light years from a high powered pulsar for the test. The reason for this is because it lessens the chance of disrupting commercial flights. The test is conducted using a decommissioned Soyuz class vessel as the subject. The test began at 18:00 hours ship time and concluded 19:30 hours ship time. During that time, the Soyuz class vessel had been damaged to the degree of near destruction. The nano-machines were collected and the DeRuyter headed back to the nearest starbase at warp 3.5. However, at 23:00 hours ship time, a distress call wass received by. The hailing ship identified itself as the freighter Vakkost Nervg and was carrying passengers. We, naturally, went to help. However, enroute to interception, Captain Castle asked for a shipping schedule and found that no vessels were scheduled for shipment through this area. When we reached the Vakkost Nervg, we found that some nano-machines were left behind (radiation from the pulsar masked some nano-machine signatures) and that they had attached themselves to the unfortunate freighter. Captain Castle ordered the deactivation of the nano-machines and beamed the crew of the Vakkost Nervg to the brig. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the Vakkost Nervg was carrying contraband of 2 metric ton of ketracel white (later found to be stolen from a Dominion depot) and 5 metric tons of Agent 42 Z 7, a highly lethal (to Terrans, Bolians, etc.) neuro-hallucinagen (main market for this are the Nausicaans, Klingons, and Orions). It is apparent that the DeRuyter had uncovered an illegal smuggling and pirate route. We haulled the Vakkost Nervg back to Starbase 213 for trial..."
SECTOR 358, STARDATE 51134.8 Mission: none Succesful: -
Captain Castle: "We were doin' some routine sweeps of sector 3 5 8, when a distress call was received from some Arrissian scout ship that had been drifting in space for the last 2 days. A bummer ofcourse.. Upon intercepting the ship, the well-known neo-mathematician Vamier Ro' Illy (pronounced Ve MEr Ro Ille) was discovered. Dr. Vamier (first name are the surnames in Arrissian society, as with them Bajorans) asked the Federation to grant him asylum from his government. The Arrissian culture is highly religious, to the degree of fanaticism. The leaders decreased their support for the mathematics and other sciences only 60 years after the warp engine was invented on Arris (Arrissian home world). Dr. Vamier's newest hypothesis on the universe being controlled by mathematical life-forms rather than the Arrissian God Kothla has come under fire by the high officials. He was placed under house-arrest until some sympathists were able to free him and supply him with the small scout ship (and I mean small!). On board the DeRuyter, Dr. Vamier was able to debrief us on his harrowing escape and his theories of mathematical creatures. Quite interesting might I ad! With cooperation from the science team, Dr. Vamier demonstrated a portal into a digital dimension. Later, a larger version of this portal was created with use of our deflector dish. By using Dr. Vamier's algorithms and the DeRuyter's scanners, large creatures that exist in Fibonacci numbers and pi. Sentient life is discovered by the orderly patterns that arose. However, the portal aggitates the beings and they increases the statistical probability of DeRuyter's destruction. As equipment fail one by one, I finally was able to turn the blasted machine off and seal the portal, restoring space. Ofcourse, Starfleet was exuberant hearing this news and is interested to investigating the doc's theories some more...."
OUTER RIM, STARDATE 51822.5 Mission: Test travelling through the Rim. Successfull: no.
Lt. VanHorn: "The DeRuyter was assigned to an extremely volatile patch of space generally refered to as the Rims. The Rims have been known to be temporally unpredictable and are avoided by civilian, commercial, and most military ships. According to Federation Database 411, a retrieved cargo freighter from the year 2204 was found in the Inner Rims (curiously found on the outside, while the outer rims are found inside) with it's 50 member crew composed of Terrans and Rikarans suffered temporal effects. Most of the Humans are found to have developed senility while their bodies remain in their normal states. However, all of the Rikarans (average life span: 205 Federation years) aged 130 years (Federation Logs Estimate). However, later Federation studies showed that the Temporal effects may be weakened with the presence of stronger shields. After 150 years of avoidence, the Federation Science Counsel decided that shield technology has gotten powerful enough to the point that it is safe to travel through the Rims. But ofcourse they have said more things... Anyhow, Federation decided that the shields are strong enough. When the DeRuyter got there, time starts to distort, however, shields (and a remodification of the warp core) kept their effects more or less at bay. However, by the time we got to the Outer Rim, the warp modifications and shields can't hold the temporal warps at bay any longer. One of the lesser known crewmen (a genius, according to tests at birth...hehe), began to evolve beyond homo sapien status and into something more. However, there is always darkness in human hearts, and the super crewman now starts to kill his tormentors. Dan err Lt. Dan Noël of Security and the cap. managed to use argument, and then force to stop the super crewman and save the ship. Too be honest, this was maybe the first time I've seen those two use some many words instead of force...... But hey, people can change, can't they?"
...with thanks to Trelane!
