19 April 2006:

I started this outfit a few years ago (around 2004, though 2003 is also likely). I nearly completed the main body of the outfit, but found that the sleeves did not work. They pulled funny when I lifted my arms, a flaw in the pattern I used for the basic form of the top. So I had to unpick them. Here are some pictures of the dress I took before I finished sewing the pieces together. This gives a decent idea of how the dress looked thus far (and looks at this point... minus the pins).

The dress in construction.

At this point, the plan is to make plain sleeves, either long or short, with cuffs. The front of the dress will button closed with a blue modesty insert stitched under the openning to complete the look of a shirt underneath the dress. The skirts will be gathered to show each layer. I'm still debating on making a crinoline to wear with the dress to puff out the skirts a little more. So far, the skirts seem to puff out pretty well even without the gathers.

I plan on also adding some black lace to each layer of skirting and possibly to the sleeves and collar. I'm still undecided. Some other possibilities are to add an oversized bow to the back of the dress or making a sash with the bow already attached that can be worn with the dress or not. I also want to make hair accessories. The original concept shows a pink bunny which I also plan on making at some point. I'm not sure If I'll be able to use this dress in one of my fairy tale photo shoots, but I'll have to look into it. Other accessories will be added as I see fit. I'm also debating adding little blue or black bows to the bottom part of each vertical gather on the skirt and adding contrasting ribbon to each layer hem, to add an even more cutesy look.

I will begin work on this item again, once I unpack it. My goal is to finish a lot of the items that were left in pending states.
