The Dragons of Sabaatah (Sah' bah tah) are the unique and Original Creation of this author. As is Sabaatah itself and all things so far related to it. To understand the dragons, one must understand the history of Sabaatah and the history of the human/dragon relationship thereon.
Briefly: The Sabataah system was discovered and charted during a routine exploratory survey of unknown space by the UHR. A Primary and Secondary Survey were conducted. While unique in its' flora and fauna, Sabaatah was in its' Mesozoic Age in its' development. The primary planet of the system was determined suitable for human habitation and was unoccupied by a sentient race making it suitable for colonization. However, before plans could be laid to colonize the world, the Imperial War began, New Era Calander year (NEC) 256.
Located approximately mid-way between the Reagency Quadrant Frontier and the boundries of the heretofore unknown Takrotkan Empire, in a relatively vast and barren area of the stars, Sabaatah was chosen for the construction of an Allied listening post. The UHR ship, UHRS " Thor " (CG1752), sent to do this duty encountered an Imperial warship of equvilent class and, while victorious in the engagement, was forced to withdraw for major repairs The construction crew and its' escort did not return from the planets' surface and could not be contacted by its' host vessel. Since enemy fighters had been detected entering Sabaatahs' atomosphere, it was presumed the entire surface force was lost. In its' badly damaged condition, the host warship could not remain to mount search and rescue efforts safely anad the surface force was listed as M.I.A. This was not entirely true.
The pilot of one escort shuttle, UHR Lt. (jr.) Danial Baumann, and the copilot of the other, UHR Lt. (jr.) Suzy Dunn, survived. In his attempts to reach the partially finished listening post, and his best chance for long-term survival on savage Sabaatah, Dan Baumann encountered the nest of a Sabaatian dragon. Circumstance left one new hatchling alive and defenseless and, out of humane kindness, the Lt. took the animal to raise. This beast became known as Dragon. Hardly an original name, but sufficient at the time. Dragon is now known as The First One, for indeed, he was the very first Sabaatian dragon to participate in the human/dragon relationship. Dragon mated and returned with his mate and she was named Eddie (Ee' de) after a companion lost in the attack which marooned the two human survivors on Sabaatah.
The two humans were marooned in the second year of the Imperial War, and spent the next eight years alone there. More or less. By the time the UHR returned after the Imperial surrender (NEC 266) to establish the research stations necessary to study Sabaatah before it was colonized, the two had become four. And under Galactic law, having founded a successful homestead on an uninhabited world, the small family was entitled to and granted Original Homesteaders' Deed to Sabaatah. They granted the UHR a Colonial Charter and were made the Colonial Governors' of the world.
With the arrival of more humans, the original dragon pair were intently studied and it was discovered they could be bonded with, if acquired as an egg or within the first few days after hatching. More information concerning this history is contained in the novel " Danial And The Dragons", which is now posted here, in installments through the Dragons' Laires' Fantasy pages and is sent to registered and enlisted UHR personnel.
