Background: Madri came to the United States from Haiti with her family at the age of three. The Acrology construstion near Pittsburgh, imported the cheapest labor it could find. It just so happened, that non-citizen, non-union Caribbeans were the best deal going. When the reactor leak forced the evacuation of Allegheny county, she and her mother fled with thousands of others. Unable to locate her husband, Madri's mother joined the fifteen-thousand of the other Caribbean dispossessed and began rebuilding. They had no money, no jobs, and nowhere to go. What they did have was a force of will and a strong sense of community. After wandering as nomads for a few months, most of the refugees settled down right where they were and slowly turned around their miserable existance. Their skills as craftsmen and teachers gave them both the ability to eventually support themselves as well as see to their own education. The new cities of Beaver Falls and Washington Pennsylvania were built almost entirely upon the strength of their backs. It was with this sense of pride and spirit that Madri was raised. She was one of the first small group of students to be sent to the university thanks to the tuition scraped together by thousands of individual contributions. Three months before she would have recieved her BA - and presumably gone on to obtain her medical Masters and PHD - the corporation bought out the university and tripled tuition for all students not already a part of their system. This meant that four of the six Carribeans of her class (and all of the students behind her) had to drop. Madri volunteered, and returned home a virtual living martyr. She found a way to use this to her advantage. With her strong technical background and her connections in the community she had an easy way into the black market dealing in cybernetics and wetware. By this time the Jamaicans had the strongest "gang" in the area and were always looking to expand. Her ability to pass in the world of the whites as well as the Carribaen ghetto allowed her to shoot to the top of the crossover cyberware market. Some of the most promising street techs were coming out of the Jamaican quarter. Naturally, they all refused to have anything to do with the corporate sector. But the corporate sector, as well as the more "connected" edgerunners, were looking for exactly the type of equipment these guys were designing. Black Bonnett stepped right into the mold. And has held the major share of the cyberware and wetware dealings in the area. If you need it, she can get it. She even, presumably, has a few connections with the Technomancers (see neotribes) and has been known to vanish without a trace any time she gets wind that she's stepped on some big government or corporate toes. Operating Style: One of the top fixers in the New City, Black Bonnett (so-called, because she wears a Black Beret when dealing. If she doesn't have it on, you better not be talking business) is known as a trustworthy fixer specializing in cyberware, and is one of the few fixers in the area who also deals in wetware at all. She is known for her blunt honesty and the occasional suprise bonus for a job well done. Black Bonnett has made a few enemies due to her habit of sometimes cancelling a contract if she senses that a deal has gone sour - usually due to the fact that those she has hired have botched the job somehow. However she does have many more friends than enemies. Often times she will pay those she hires in part with reduced-price cyberware. What is she hiring all these people for? Mostly, she contracts out for couriers to either pick up or deliver a shipment of merchandise. She has also been known to provide bodygaurds for the few techies she regularly deals with, when they are working on something particularly hot - like a stolen copyright or patent or something. She lives on the third floor of the Collide-O-Scope (as she is the primary owner) with her lover, Heather, and her bodyguard Daedo. Psychological: Motivation: Community Security, ExMode: Extrovert - friendly/helpful, InMode: Honorable - slightly judgemenal, Attitude: Do unto others as they would have themselves done unto, except those that lie and cheat. Anyone who treats others poorly should expect nothing but the same from the rest of the world. Life is meant to be lived, not squandered with schemes or self-promotion. |
