A New Arrival by Giselle

Day 1

As she slowly walked down the hall, almost every hormonally driven boy turned
his head to catch a glimpse of the "fresh meat" as one boy said. She had long
curvy, yet slim legs, with a tight flat stomach to match. She was dressed in
dark denim jeans with a black long sleeved tight blouse, which suited her
perfectly. She had her long, straight, thin, blond hair up in a loose
ponytail, with tiny strands of baby hair falling out. She had a clear, yet
tan complexion and was tall and slim and grabbed the attention from every boy
she walked by. But she was too busy thinking about her first day at a new
school to notice all the sex fiends gawking at her as they drooled on the
hall way floor.
Isabel was headed towards the ladies room, when she turned the corner
and walked straight into the new girl. "Walk much?" Isabel asked,
sarcastically in an irritated tone. "Yeah, what about you?" the girl shot
back. Isabel looked the girl up and down with an angry look on her face. "Is
that Prada you're wearing?" she asked curiously, in a friendly tone.
Max is sitting in geometry class, almost falling asleep to his boring
teacher lecture the class on the measures of angles. Just then, he awakens to
the sudden knock at the door. A tall, slim blonde walks in and hands the
teacher a note. "Class," the teacher announces as he is still reading the
note. " We have a new student. This is Jenna Campbell. Ms. Campbell, why
don't you take the empty seat in front of Max? Max, can you please raise your
hand so Jenna knows where to sit?" the teacher asked. Max slowly raised his
hand as he watched Jenna walk down the aisle in his direction. "Hi" Jenna
says softly as she sits down. "Hi" Max replies as he lowers his hand. He then
takes his eyes off Jenna and turns in the direction in front of him to the
left, where Liz is sitting watching him with a look of jealously and
disbelief.
Topolsky sat at her desk, clutching the phone to her ear, listening
to orders from the other end of the line. "Understood" she said. Just then,
she hears a knock at the door. "Come in" she calls out. A small old woman
comes walking in holding a vanilla colored folder, "A new student just
transferred from the next town over. Here are her files." The woman said as
she walked to her desk and handed Topolsky the folder. "Thank you." Topolsky
replied as the woman left the room. Topolsky sat back and began reading
through the files. She then sat up and muttered "Mmm, interesting."
Isabel sat at a small table, outside in the courtyard, talking with
Jenna.  "And that's Bobby Peterson. He just got dumped by that cheerleader
over there." Isabel explains as she points out different people all around
the courtyard. Just then, Max and Michael come walking up to the two girls
and sit down. "Oh, Max. Michael, this is Jenna. She's new here." Isabel said.
"Hey" Michael replied, in a non-interested tone. "Hi, again" Max said as he
smiled at Jenna. "Do you two know each other?" Isabel asked. "We have
geometry together." He answered her, still watching Jenna. Michael watched
Jenna's every move, with a curious yet intrigued look on his face. Just then,
Jenna caught him watching her as he quickly changed the direction in which he
was staring at.
"Um?I have to get going " Jenna said as she stood up and gathered her
things. "It was nice meeting you guys. I'll see you around Isabel" she said
as she started to walk away. "Odd girl" Michael said. "She is not" Isabel
snapped back. "She's the only girl around here with style, besides me" Isabel
continued. "Sounds to me like you found your match" Michael said as he got
up. "Where are you going?" Max asked. "To go see the principal. I got caught
skipping." He explained. "Again?" asked Isabel. Michael got up and walked
away. Isabel brought her attention to Max, who was staring off into space.
"You like her don't you?" Isabel asked.  "What? Who?" Max asked curiously.
"Come on Max. I can see it in your eyes. You're attracted to her." Isabel
said mockingly. "She is pretty, yes." Max said "But, there's just something
so familiar about her. I can't put my finger on it." He continued. "Well,
duh! She's a perfect imitation of Gwyneth." Isabel said sarcastically.  "It's
not that." Max said,  "It's something else."
Liz and Maria are walking down a crowded hallway on their way back to
class. "Liz, what's wrong?" Maria asked concerned. "You've been so quiet."
She added. "I've just been thinking…it's nothing?well, it's just that-"
"Spit it out " Maria interrupted. "I think Max likes a new girl." She blurted
out. "What?' asked Maria. "There's this new girl in our geometry class that
just enrolled today. She sits in front of Max, and well, I noticed him
looking at her." "Looking at her how?" asked Maria. "The way he used to look
at me, before that day at the Crashdown." She said sadly. "Don't be
ridiculous." Maria said. "It's sounds like to me you're being jealous over
nothing. Just because Max doesn't look at you the same way he used to,
doesn't mean he doesn't like you, or cares about you. He just looks at you in
a different way now, a better way." She assured Liz. "Now that he has gotten
to know you better, he sees you in a different perspective."  "You're right,"
Liz said, "I'm getting worried over nothing." She said as they continued to
walk down the hallway.
Michael and Max are seated at a booth at The Crashdown caf?after
school.
"There's something about that new girl." Michael said. "I keep getting these
weird vibes off of her." He continued. "Like something is familiar about
her?" Max asked. "Yeah," Michael replied. "How did  you know?" "Because I'm
getting the same feeling as you whenever I see her" "Seems a bit suspicious
to me." Michael said.  Max then turned his head and watched Liz at the
counter cleaning up after a costomer."Max." Michael called out. "Sorry" Max
said as he looked down at his food.  "I think she needs to be kept under
close observation" Michael suggested. "Liz?" Max asked. "No. Jenna" Michael
said. "No. You're blowing this way out of proportion, Michael." Max said.
"No I'm not." "Yes, you are." "We'll see." Michael said as he took a bite of
his fry.

Day 2

Jenna is sitting on a bench outside in the courtyard, going through
some papers, when Isabel comes and walks up to her. "Morning" Isabel said.
"Hey" Jenna replied. "Where ya headed?" she asked Isabel. "To my locker"
Isabel answered. "Mind if I join you? I'm headed that way" "Come on" said
Isabel. Jenna got up and they both walked inside a building and up to
Isabel's locker. Isabel started to unlock her lock to the locker door. "So,
how do you like West Roswell High?" Isabel asked. "It's a lot nicer than my
old school." She answered. "Where did you live before, if you don't mind me
asking?" "I used to live in the next town over, but I'm originally from
Roswell." Jenna explained. Isabel finished turning the knob to her lock and
unlocked it, then removing the lock and opened the door to her locker.
"You're from here? What part?" Isabel asked as she pulled out a book from her
locker and placed it in her bag. Just as Jenna was about to answer her
question, she noticed the necklace Isabel was wearing around her neck, and
the familiar symbol it had on it. "Hello?" Isabel said annoyed. "What?" Jenna
asked as she took her eyes off the necklace and looked at Isabel. "What part
are you from?" Isabel repeated as she took off the necklace and placed it in
her locker than shut it and locked it with Jenna watching her every move
carefully. "Um, I have to go. I'll see in lunch." she said as she walked off
a bit shaken.
Max is sitting in geometry class watching Jenna from behind. Jenna
leans back and turns her head a bit to the side so she can see Max in the
corner of her eye as she says "Hi." He leans forward and says "Hi" "What are
you doing?" she asked softly. "Watching you" he whispered. Just then a
student walks in the room and hands a small piece of paper to the teacher at
his desk, and then leaves. The teacher reads the paper and then says aloud,
"Jenna Campbell, please report to the guidance counselor's office." She gets
up and grabs her things and heads out the door as Liz looks back at Max and
notices him watching Jenna.
Miss. Topolsky is sitting at her desk talking on the phone. "I
suspect a new student could also be what we are looking for. She has the same
background as your 3 subjects. I'm interviewing her today to get more
information. I'll contact you when I know more." She hangs up the phone as
she hears a knock at the door. "Come in" she calls out. Jenna comes walking
in. She shuts the door and walks over to Topolsky's desk. "Hi Ms. Campbell.
I'm your new guidance counselor, Miss. Topolsky. Take a seat please." Jenna
sits down in a chair in front of her. "What is this all about?" Jenna asked.
"Well, I like to get to know my students better, so I go through a complete
interrogation with each and every one. So, if you don't mind, I'll be asking
you some personal questions." "No, not at all. Go ahead." Jenna answered.
"Okay, it says in your file" she looks down at her vanilla colored folder,
"that you were adopted. Would you like to tell me some background information
on that?" "Well, I was found out near the highway when I was, like, 6 or 7
years old by a police officer. He sent me to an adoption agency in the next
town over, and that's when my parents adopted me." "Do you remember where you
were found or how you got there?" "No" Jenna replied. Topolsky looked down at
the files again. "It says here that you have a brother." "Step-brother. My
parents got divorced when I was 8. My mother got custody and we moved to the
next town over while my dad moved to New York. My mother remarried last year
to this businessman who was transferred here" "I'm sorry" Toplosky said. Just
then, the lunch bell rang. "There's my exit cue" Jenna said as she stood up.
"Well, thank you for answering my questions. I only wish we had more time."
Topolsky said as she stood up and shook Jenna's hand. "Have a nice afternoon"
she said as Jenna left.
Max, Isabel, and Michael are sitting outside in the courtyard
eating lunch. "Where is she?" Isabel asked herself aloud. "Who?" Max asked.
"Jenna. She was supposed to meet me in lunch. You know, she's been acting a
bit strange." "Strange how?" Michael asked. "Well, this morning I asked what
part of Roswell is she from and she like froze up and took off" "Wait a
minute. She's from Roswell? I thought she was new here." Max asked. "Well,
she said she was originally from Roswell, but lived in the next town over"
Isabel explained. At that point, Michael got up and left. "Where is he
going?" Isabel asked.
Jenna is walking in an empty indoor hallway. She is unaware of
Michael, who is about 10 feet behind her. Watching her. She walks over to
Isabel's locker. Michael hides behind a corner of a wall, peaking his head
out a bit to see what she's doing. Jenna drops her things to the floor, and
then looks to her right and then to her left. "What is she doing at Isabel's
locker?" Michael asked himself in a whisper.  Jenna then takes her index
finger and places it directly in front of the knob to the lock, barely
touching it. The knob to the lock begins to spin rapidly, then comes to a
stop and unlocks. Jenna picks her bag off the floor and puts its strap around
her shoulder. She removes the lock from the locker and opens the locker door.
"Ouch." She cries as she cuts her finger on the edge of the locker door. She
then looks all around her once again, seeing if the coast is clear. She then
holds up her injured hand, and with the other, in a straightened position,
places it above and in front of the injured hand, and slides it downward with
out touching the other hand. She then brings her hand back up to its primary
position and the wound was gone. Michael took a step back as his eyes widen
and his facial expression turned to shock, and said "My god. She's one of
us." Jenna reached inside Isabel's locker and removed the necklace from it
and placed it in her bag, then shut the locker door and locked it again.
Lunch was over and Max had been searching the school for
Michael since he had disappeared in lunch. He walked quickly down the halls
looking everywhere to see if he could catch Michael before the last class of
the day was about to begin. Liz spots Max from across the hallway and walks
up to him. "Hey" she says innocently. "Have you seen Michael?" he asked her,
worried. "No. Why?" Liz asked starring deep into his eyes. "He took off in
lunch today and I need to talk to him" Max explained. "Um, Max, I know this
is probably the wrong time to ask you this, but, I just wanted to know about
you and that new g-" Liz was cut off by Michael's entrance. "Max, I have to
talk to you" Michael said with an anxious yet impatient look on his face.
"Uh, sure" Max says. They then walk off quickly leaving Liz behind.
Michael pulls Max into an empty dark classroom. And closes the door
behind him. Michael looks all around the room to make sure it's safe. "What
is it?" Max asked, concerned. "It's her. Jenna. She's one of us." Michael
blurted out. "What? No. That's absurd. " Max said. "Is it?" Michael asked. "I
saw her. I saw her open Isabel's locker by spinning the lock with her finger.
She healed her wound the same way we do. I'm telling you, it's her." Michael
said, sure of himself. " Isabel's locker? Why would she break into Izie's
locker? No, Michael, you probably think you saw her do those things. You're
just so anxious to find out more about where we come from and who we are,
that your mind is playing tricks on you." Max explained. "No," Michael said
shaking his head. "Come on Max. Do you remember when we came out of the
incubation pods? You said you saw numbers marked on them. Yours was number 1,
Isabel's was number 3, and I remember seeing number 4 on mine. She's number
2, Max. It has to be her. What if she knows about our missing relative? She
could have answers that we don't have or remember." Michael explained. "She
would know us, feels what we're feeling." Max answered. "She probably doesn't
know. Or maybe she's just scared." "But it can't be." Max said, afraid of
what it could mean if it was true. "If it's not her. Then why did she break
into Isabel's locker and steal the necklace?"  Michael asked. "What did you
say?" "She took the necklace. Maybe she knows more about it." Max lowered his
head and closed his eyes. "I'm right, and you know it" "Well, we'd better
make sure before we do anything." Max told him. "Leave that to me." Said
Michael.

Part 3

It was the last class of the day. Max sat impatiently at his desk watching
the clock. He needed to find Isabel to inform her of what was going on with
Jenna. Liz sat next to Max working on an assignment. She stopped to catch a
glimpse of Max, still watching the clock. She leaned over and whispered
shyly, trying to make conversation "Don't you just hate study hall? It's
always so quiet." "That's because everyone's studying." He said with a smile.
"Oh, right." She said embarrassed as she chuckled nervously. "So, um?That
new girl, Jenna? She seems really?nice." Liz said slowly, waiting for some
kind of reaction. "Yea." He said casually. "She seems very friendly too, you
know, especially…with you" Liz said starring deep into his eyes. Max looked
up at her and smiled as he said "She's just a friend, Liz. Nothing more." He
assured her. "So, you're not interested in her?" she asked hopefully. "Yes,"
he said she her facial expression turned to disappointment. "But not in the
way that you're thinking." He said. She looked at him and smiled, relived.
Michael stood outside a classroom door, in an empty indoor hallway.
The release bell rang, students began to pour out of their classes and fill
the hallway, all exiting to the front of the school. Michael stood by the
classroom door waiting to Jenna to come out along with her other classmates,
who were leaving. The hallway became less crowded as all the students left
for home, until finally, it was empty. The classroom door swung open beside
Michael, and out walked Jenna, shoving a folder in her bag, not noticing
Michael. "Hi" Michael said loudly, startling her. "Hi" she said nervously as
she threw her bag around her shoulder. She began to walk down the hallway as
he followed her, keeping up with her pace. "Where were you in lunch today?
Isabel was looking for you." He said suspiciously. "I had some business to
take care of" she said as she began to walk faster.
"Like breaking into Isabel's locker?" he asked, making sure he was
keeping up with her pace. "I don't know what you're talking about." She said
coldly. "Then why are you walking so fast?" he asked. Jenna looked around for
an exit to find, she saw a bathroom door and started heading for it. But
Michael cut her off before she could open it. He stood close to her, looking
her deep in the eyes. "Let me pass" she demanded in a frightened tone of
voice. He slowly moved to the side, still watching her. She quickly entered
the bathroom.  Jenna paced around in a panic. "What am I gonna do?" she asked
herself, scared. She looked up and saw a window leading to the student
parking lot.
Michael's patience was wearing thin, and he started to become irritated and
angry as well. He walked in the bathroom, looking in each stall till he
discovered the open window. Jenna was running through the parking lot,
looking behind her to make Michael was long gone. She started to look for her
keys to her car in her bag as she continued to run. Just then, she collided
with a tall, strong figure. When she looked up, there stood Max. "Are you
O.K.?" he asked as he held out his hand to help her up. "Fine" she said as he
pulled her up. Michael came running around the corner, he saw Max and Jenna
standing across from each other. "Don't let her get away!" he yelled as he
began to run faster. Max looked at Michael then at Jenna. She looked at Max
and then took off past him. Max ran after her, catching up, he grabbed her
arm and pulled her backwards, turning her in his direction. He grabbed her
other arm and pulled her up to his chest as she yelled "Let me go!"
She looked into his eyes, scared. His starred deep into her eyes, filled with
fear, he then loosened his grip. She ran away from him heading for her car.
"What are you doing?!" Michael yelled as he ran up to Max and then ran past
him still going after her. Jenna was almost to her car, she looked behind her
as she saw Michael close behind her. She finally got to her silver Honda
Civic and started to go through her keys. Michael ran up to her and put his
hand over her mouth and his arm around her waist, pulling her back away from
the car. She tried to scream, but only a muffled attempt could be heard.
Michael then put his two fingers against the side of her neck. Jenna closed
her eyes and fell to the floor, unconscious. Michael took her keys and opened
the door to her car. He picked Jenna up and placed her in the passenger side
of her car. He then jumped in the driver's side and took off as Max came
running up. "Michael! Come back!" he yelled as he watched them take off.

Part 4

Max walked into the Crashdown Caf?looking for Michael with a
worried expression on his face. He saw Maria talking to Liz and walked up to
them. "Have you guys seen Michael?" he asked concerned. Liz could see the
panic and fear in his eyes. "No. Is something wrong?" she asked. Max knew he
couldn't involve Liz in this. Even though she had been through so much with
Max and the others, he knew this was different. And Liz wasn't too fond of
Jenna at the time. He didn't want to put her through this, not now anyway. He
would explain it to her eventually. He could never hide anything from Liz.
"No. I just need to find him. I went to his place, but he wasn't there." He
explained. Liz could tell something was wrong. She couldn't understand why
Max wouldn't tell her. Isabel walked in from the kitchen, in her waitress
outfit, and headed towards the threesome. "Hey, what's going on?" she asked
Max. "I can't find Michael." He said as he gave her a look as in trying to
tell her something was wrong, but not to let the girls let on. Isabel picked
up on Max's innuendo. "Oh, I know where he is. I'll take you" she said as she
took off her silver apron. "But you're shift isn't over yet." Maria told her.
"It is now." Isabel said as she threw the apron up and started heading for
the exit. Maria caught the apron and said in disgust, "Can you believe her?"
to Liz. But Liz was to busy trying to figure out what could be going on.
"This is a joke right?" Isabel asked, while she and Max were driving
around town. Max had just finished explaining to her everything that had
happened. "Do you think she could be one? One of us?" Isabel asked. "Do you
remember that night I went with Liz to the reservation to see River Dog? I
never told you guys, but I went back to see him. He told me that the man who
owned the necklace talked about a young girl, one of his kind, would come one
day and translate the writings on the cave. At first I thought it was you."
Max explained. "You think she's the one the man was talking about?" Isabel
asked. "I hope so. If she is and she can tell us what the scriptures mean."
Max said. But Max was afraid that if Jenna was the "one", then finding out
more about where they're from and who they are could mean losing Liz. They
pulled up to their empty house. "Isabel, someone's here" Max said as he saw a
light turn on from inside the dark house. "Maybe it's mom or dad."  She
suggested, trying not to get scared. "No," Max said as he got out of the
jeep, "they went out to dinner with the Lemmens." Isabel stepped out of the
car and stood next to her brother. As they walked closer up to the house,
Isabel became more and more scared. She stopped, causing Max to stop too.
"Max, what if it's those people who have been following us?" she asked, her
voice trembling. They began to walk closer and closer to the house.
Max walked slowly in the dark hallway. The light was coming from his
room. Isabel was right behind him, squeezing his hand tightly. In the other
hand, Max held a butcher knife he grabbed from the kitchen. He slowly placed
his hand on the doorknob, and turned it as quietly and slowly as possible, so
that the intruder couldn't hear him entering. He slowly opened the door and
walked in. There lied Jenna on his bed, unconscious. "Oh, my god!" Isabel
said as she and Max walked over to her. Max sat next to her and put his hand
against her cheek. "Jenna? Jenna, can you hear me?" he asked. Just then
Michael walked in the doorway. "She can't hear you" he said casually,
startling Max and Isabel. "What are you doing here?" Max asked. "What are you
doing here?" "I live here" Max said.  "Michael are you crazy?" Isabel asked,
upset. "What?" he asked as if he did know wrong, as he walked up to them.
"What did you do to her?" Max asked, worried, still holding Jenna,
trying to wake her up. "Don't worry. She's fine." Michael assured him.
"Michael, what possesd you to do this?" Isabel asked. "Come on Isabel. How
else would we find out what we need from her?" "You don't even know if she
knows more then we do, or less. You don't even know if she is one of us!"
Isabel said, almost yelling at him. "I'm telling you, she is!" he yelled.
"Wake her up!" Max said as he rose up from the bed quickly. "All right, all
right!" he said. He walked over to the bed and sat down next to Jenna. He
placed his two fingers on the side of her neck. Nothing happened. "Why isn't
it working?" Isabel asked. "I don't know" Michael said as he got up. "Max do
something" Isabel told him.
Max went and sat down next to Jenna on the bed. He ran his hand down her
cheek, and then placed two fingers on the side of her neck. Suddenly, Max
felt a quick painful shock. He saw a small girl waving good bye to a tall
man. He then saw Jenna's face, still unconscious, lying on his bed. The pain
came back again. He was connecting with her while trying to bring her out of
unconsciousness. He was now seeing flashes of her life. He could see her, the
night she was "born" that cold starry night, back in 1989. He watched her
walk down a cold dessert highway, looking for sight of civilization, the same
way they did. He saw the day she met her adoptive parents, the day her dad
left her and her mother, her mother's wedding day. The day they moved back to
Roswell. And then he saw himself, sitting in geometry class, watching her
walk towards him. "Max!" he heard. He broke out of the connection at the
sound of Isabel's voice calling him. He took his hand off Jenna's cheek and
his fingers off the side of her neck. They waited to see what happened.
Jenna slowly opened her eyes, blinking at first, then looking up all around
her. "Are you O.K.?" Max asked softly. She slowly nodded, starring deep into
his eyes. "Where am I?" she asked weakly. "You're at my place" he told her.
"What happened?' she asked, confused. "Michael kidnapped you." Isabel
explained.  Max helped her sit up slowly. "Why did you bring me here?" she
asked, frightened. "What's going on?" she asked panicky. "Calm down. You have
nothing to be afraid of" Max assured her. "We know about you." Michael told
her. "What you are." He added. "What are you talking about?" she asked.
"You're not human" Michael told her. Her eyes became full of fear. She looked
at Max, then Isabel, and finally Michael, as if she knew there was something
familiar about them. "Neither are you." She announced.
She couldn't believe it, there were more just like her. "Why don't you answer
some questions for us?" Michael asked. "Do you remember anything the night
you were "born"?" Max asked. "I remember, it was cold, and I was alone,
scared. When I stepped out of the pod, It had scripture on the side. There
was a number on it, number 2. " She explained. "Do you know what the
scripture said?" Isabel asked.  "It said "rescue mission survivor". On the
other side of the pod, it had a symbol drawn on it. The same symbol on you're
necklace." She told Isabel. "Do you know what the symbol means?" asked
Isabel. "It means home" she explained.
"Did you know there was others like you?" Max asked. "No," she said. "I
thought I was the only one." She replied. "Have you ever told anyone?" Isabel
asked. "No." she answered. "What about you?" Jenna asked. Max looked at
Isabel, then at Michael. "Who?" asked Jenna. "Just 2 people. Liz and Maria."
Isabel replied. "How can you understand what the writings mean?" Michael
asked. " I don't know. I just can." Answered Jenna. "If you could read the
writings on the side of the pod, then you can read the scripture in the cave
by the reservation." Michael said. "O.K, you lost me" Jenna said. "It's along
story, we'll tell you on the way there." Michael said. "Wait a minute." Max
started to say. "It's too dark out now. I'm just as anxious as you are
Michael, to find out what the writings mean, but it's better if we went
later." "Fine, we'll go tomorrow, after school" Michael said.
