Battle for Mars 3

Flying Saucers

Let's face it: it's rather improbable that an alien looks like us. The classic humanoid and his space coffeepot had been means used in the film industry to approach to us something quite incredible.

The flying saucer of the grade-Z science fiction movies has turned into another design of alien Star Ship more baroque and weird, less conventional and, althought it seems paradoxical, much more realistic.

The derelict alien ship in ALIEN or, earlier, the Shadow ships in BABYLON 5 are, from my point of view, great esthetical and conceptual discoveries. When I designed this one in particular, I tried to do something different. But here, as usual, my subconscious betrayed me. Its shape remembers something like a skid and the lower wings are identical to whale's caudal fin. As a result, I got a chimerical nautical being.
