Lean Il Lupe - the Wolf
Ficverse: ReBoot: Project Metaverse - The Resonate Series
Fic Debut: "Comes the Wolf"

Lean Il Lupe -- also known in the criminal underground as 'the Wolf' -- is a Class-8 virus, but he did not begin life that way.  He was originally a security protocol on the computer of the hacker DaVinci, but he was written to be semi-intelligent.  This gave him enough leverage to develop AI and escape the computer.  He gained sprite form through unknown means and called himself 'Lean' (LEE-en), a short version of "chameleon" (which was the nickname for his protocol).  When attacked by a gang of anti-sprite religious zealots, Lean exhibited virus traits, which prompted one of the group (a man named Klaus Lans) to call him a 'wolf.'  This led Lean to create his last name, Il Lupe (ill LOO-pay) -- a corruption of il lupo, Italian for 'the wolf.'

Il Lupe went on to recruit two sprite terrorist brothers, Rollo and Tomasi Exley, and together they infiltrated forbidden Colony World Omega II, currently known as Cragis.  There, Il Lupe enslaved the local Anthro race, rock-like humanoids called Golems, and began to plot his takeover of the entire Metaverse.  This led him to pursue his creator, DaVinci, so he could co-opt the hacker's talents for his nefarious purposes.

Following a botched merging, Il Lupe hacked System Resonate's Anti-Game Protocol (AGP) and began to drop Game Cubes on the helpless system, but DaVinci and his friends fought back, foiled his plan and even caused Il Lupe to become trapped inside his own Game Cube, where he was nullified.

Due to Il Lupe's unnatural viral nature, however, his intelligence survived the nullification and he forced Naught Aught to help him be re-initialized.  After this, however, Il Lupe realized that the human scientist he'd used for this purpose was more evil than he and tried to destroy him.  In this quest, he began to classified more as a quasi-hostile virus than pure hostile, as he helped citizens of System Resonate following a terrorist bombing there.

Il Lupe also has a dislike of anti-nonhuman racists, much like his creator.  This caused him to run afoul of the True Force terrorist group a few times, but then he ran into a Class-17 virus, Elogin, who literally consumed him to increase her own power.  His intelligence again perservered, long enough for an accidental merging to take place between his virus nature and his creator.  This merging was later reversed, and Il Lupe appeared to be destroyed forever.

Or was he? 1
