Following the Nebuchadnezzar's near-destruction, Morpheus recruited new crew members from the ship, the Enki, among them Artemis.  Artemis was the rough equivalent to replace Switch and Apoc, who were killed by the treacherous Cypher.  She is a very aggressive individual and strong fighter in the Matrix.

Like her twin brother 'Apollo,' Artemis is a pale individual, but her hair is darker than her brother's.  She is, as said, a very aggressive person, both in and out of the Matrix.  This alienated her crewmates a bit, but they were all behind her 100 percent -- except when she began to suspect crewmate Nil Excess of having Agent sympathies.  She didn't entirely trust Nil to begin with, but the rest of the crew knew Nil had no love for the Agents, who were responsible for his brother's death.

Artemis was ambushed by Agent Jameson however and dealt a fatal gunshot wound.  Prior to dying, she told Nil that while she may not have liked him, she thought he was a tough-ass crewmate and told him to give the Machines hell.  She managed to make it out of the Matrix, but her brother, the Neb's doctor, was unable to save her life.
