Lorin's Record Lorin's Story Although I love Kirina dearly, I would much rather write my own story for her records. That way, I know exactly what people will read about me. My story is quite simple really. I was raised at Jerdan Weyr. When I was young I had dreams of becoming a dragonrider, but never was Searched. In my twenties, I developed a crush on brown rider with thick brown hair, thick eyebrows, and a determined jaw. We were blessed with one son, S'vorin, who just Impressed brown Zerith. I have long, light brown hair which I keep pulled back from my face. I have blue eyes, and dimples. I am not thin, but I'm not fat. You might call me plump? Anyway, I passed my 36th turn last month! How the time flies. My current occupation is managing the Lower Caverns. I have been the headwoman for the last 10 Turns. I have three foster children besides S'vorin. R'mas, rider of brown Hestorth, is the same age as S'vorin, now 16 turns. I became his foster mother when his own mother, a green rider died giving birth. R'mas's father, weyrlingmaster R'mir is a good friend of mine. Chalin is an active 10 Turn-old boy who would like to be a dragonrider like his fosterbrothers. He is much too young to stand to the egg yet. Mabey in a couple of Turns. Braishali is only 6. It will be a while before she can even think of being Searched. I'm quite happy having her underfoot all day. My own Fire-lizard egg S'vorin found me in the Lower Caverns. Now in his 16th Turn and as rider of brown Zerith, he was one of the youngest members of the fighting wings. In his arms he was delicately carrying a sack. "Mother!" he called to me. "I've just been over to Draconia Weyr and they have a clutch of fire lizard eggs hardening at the moment. Since not all of them were spoken for yet, I brought one for you!" Gently he opened the sack revealing an egg pot filled with sand. Carefully brushing the top grains away, he show me the nearly hardened egg." "S'vorin. I, well, I just don't know what to say! This is wonderful!" I stammered for words. "It's just a thanks for all the work you do. R'mas and I have been planning to get you one for ages." Hatching I was late in the evening, and the sun's last rays were barely warming the fields outside. I was sipping my klah, relieved that the day's work was finally finished, when suddenly, I heard a crack. At first I couldn't believe my ears. Then there was another crack, and another. I grabbed the wherry meat I had prepared and crouched down next to my firelizard egg. Gently picking it up, I saw the wide crack form down the side of the egg, while more cracks quickly followed. Soon, a tiny bronze head popped through! I was paralyzed for a second, but then immediately start offering the little firelizard pieces of the wherry meat. He took the offered pieces hungrily, craving more. I feed him for the next quarter of an hour, and then he seemed to be full. As his eyes dropped I gently cradled him in the crook of my arm until he fell asleep. We sat together for the longest time until Kirina entered the cavern. "Lorin! Your fire-lizard hatched!" Smiling back at her while at the same time stealing another look at my new friend, I replied,"Yes, meet Bronze Orion." Orion is from Draconia Weyr |
