Lendahan's Weyr

Lendahan's Weyr

Lendahan looked up from the book he was reading as his friend Aidann ambled into his weyr. The unicorn was looking rather smug and Lendahan wondered what had happened. He set his book down and declined to get up, preferring to stay sitting and relax. Aidann snorted as Lendahan crossed his hands ove his stomach and said, "If you were any lazier, you'd be a statue. How often do you move?" Lendahan smiled back and said, "I move when I have to. And I can get far too angry to be a statue. Now, why are you so smug?"

"I have big news," Aidann replied. "There's going to be a flight at Fire Ridge Weyr." Lendahan looked shocked and actually sat up from his relaxed position in surprise. He wondered how Aidann had found out then thought that the unicorn most likely would not tell him. He sat back to think and wondered what his chances of getting a dragon were. He looked up at Aidann as the unicorn snorted again and said, "Well? You gonna do anything about this weyr?"

Lendahan looked around and realized that he hadn't cleaned in a few weeks. His books were jumbled in and around the bookcase and his desk. His clothes weren't completely put away put piled semi-neatly on his dresser. There were a few dust bunnies, but Lendahan thought they lended his weyr a lived-in look. Lendahan resolved to clean his weyr out as soon as he had finished the nap he was planning to take after he finished reading. Aidann, watching his face, had followed his train of thought and knew that Lendahan wouldn't do anything until he had his nap. He shook his head and sent his mane flying.

After Lendahan convinced himself that falling asleep in his chair again would not be a good idea, he curled up on the mat and blankets he kept on the floor so he could be near Aidann. The unicorn curled himself up next to his elf friend and the two slept for a few hours. Lendahan woke up first and shook Aidann awake. The unicorn shook his head and heaved himself to his feet. Lendahan followed and started picking up all the books and putting them back in the bookcase. He grinned as he put a few of the joke books back, remembering a few favorites from them. As they worked, Lendahan kept up a constant stream of jokes and puns, most of which had Aidann laughing and others groaning.

After he and Aidann had cleaned up the worst of the mess and prepared a place for the dragon, Lendahan decided to get some breakfast, his favorite meal of the day. Aidann again followed his thoughts and said, "With as much as you eat, Lendahan, I'm surprised you're still as thin as a pole." Lendahan grinned and replied, "My little secret. I wouldn't enjoy eating as much if I had to watch what I ate." The unicorn grinned a horse smile and reminded Lendahan, "After breakfast, you going to sign up at Fire Ridge?" Lendahan nodded and led Aidann off to find some breakfast.
